Thread regarding Lumen Technologies layoffs

remote workplace

Since Lumen is selling or has sold or donated its office real estate except a few critical ones., how about we start acting like a fully remote workplace and stop doing old school in person gatherings?!

The company was too cheap (and broke) to fly people to gatherings or even pay for lunch but we want to require them to come in and work for a day with random people they really don't work with and thats a good thing?

I'm sorry but this is old school thinking and a great example of not being disruptive or innovative.

No thanks.

I believe in person gatherings create bonds between teams. Humans are social beings. People tend to work better with someone when you have shared a few minutes with them in person. Yes, there is a place for remote work and Teams meetings. But 100% of the time never leaving your house...and only knowing the people you work with by the sound of their voice? How does that enable any sort of camaraderie or teamwork?
I have made plenty of friends by going into an office with people I dont work with day to day, and have exposure into other groups of this company that would normally not be possible by a completely Msft Teams existence. Youd be surprised how fulfilling it is (both in work and personal life) to share a lunch or happy hour with people you dont work with day to day in this company.

Talk is cheap. But, that's Centurylink / Centurytel - the operative word is "Cheap".
A grow by acquisition company, never expanding organically, outselling the competition, just acquire more debt.

Certainly I see that they have a very global workforce and have been promoting Lumen as a remote workplace so I don't understand the focus on in person gatherings, when so many on the teams can't be present anyways.

The other things I see is they move people around like crazy, so the teams that once were like families and full of experts are now more like a random mix of talent that has no synergy because of the constant change and short term nature of the "teams".

Doing old school things is what telco is all about, which makes the "disrupting telco" moniker even more hilarious.
