It's kind of getting out of hand in my role (development). Seems like every breath I take and like of code I write requires me to fill out a form. It's definitely a red flag when documenting my work now takes as much time as my actual job. I guess they're trying to figure out who needs cut next - or are trying to get enough detailed documentation to send over to India for them to take over our jobs.

You are about this replaced.
This is a example of what the next guy will experience:

They're definitely preparing to send your job to India.
I have been asked to put code and documentation into different places.
I ignore said requests.
One response above sounds like HR or management— “start job hunting”… sure so severance isn’t an option!!
Yes, and I was let go along with several from my team in February. It’s all writing on the wall. Our teams have been reduced by more than half already and we were a smaller team. Silently hiring contractors right after or amidst a layoff, to then fire one only a few weeks in… What a great working environment(not). Honestly, I don’t know what happened to the incredibly talented and ethically led organization I once worked for… it’s not the same and it’s disgusting!
So I came to CIGNA from banking during the pandemic. Most of us worked remote (flexibly), many of us (me) designated as fully remote employees. Then in early 2020 (before the pandemic fully broke out), they were now reneging on remote work entirely, everyone within 50 miles of any office had to go into at least 2-3 days a week. This obviously got stalled until around late 2021.
Fast forward a bit, people onshore started quitting and roles were not backfilled even if we needed it. We were all stressed, having to pick up extra work and then having to handhold the newly recruited offshore teams (which they had been ramping up steadily over the past few years). This included all the extra documentation.
I ended up quitting because we were ending up on day/week long calls troubleshooting offshore mistakes (who obviously were not on during US hours, obviously). Later found out that my entire onshore team (including several levels of management up) were laid off and replaced with said awful offshore as part of ongoing budget cuts.
It's almost comical how similar this is to what happened at said bank. I already started planning my exit a month back and suggest you do the same.
Yes. And I am being very general and vague when I can and leaving out interim steps, shortcuts, and details so the documentation is as useless as possible. When I had the documentation locked to just my team in Confluence, I was told to make it public. I am certain it is being shared with HIH. If I am training my replacement I want to make it as challenging as possible for them.
I think they’re trying to figure out one of the following:
- how to complete some of the work with AI by collecting this data
- who is actually performing the work and who isn’t.
- See where cuts can be made to work streams or employees.
I’d start job hunting. Sounds like they are making you prep for replacements.
Yes, same here. Also getting red flag vibes from this.
