What are the chances that a remote person who does not live near an office will get promoted or move around the company to different departments? Are they only hiring near office locations now? Wondering what the chances are for future opportunities at this company.

I think Dell’s CEO answered that question…

They cut costs on everything but DEI and mandatory inclusion and bias training. My manager informed us that even though they announced new career tracks last year, nothing is clear apart from business title changes.
"Hope is not a strategy" - looking for a better position elsewhere is better.
@7ovb+1rrq7gae There is never more of a clear signal than the verbal promotion promise that goes unfulfilled that the promotion is never going to come. When a manager's manager wants to promote you (particularly at F5), it will happen and money will not be the deciding the factor. This is coming from one of the April 20th laid off group.
Well I’ve been verbally promised a promotion twice now only for it to be swept under the rug because “oops looks like there’s no budget” … maybe next year they say. It’s really up to the leaders and how they manage their budget and unfortunately there are some bad leaders at this company
Depends on the role and your releated experience. There are many people in sales, BD, support and product management that do not work from an office. Most hiring managers will be happy to have an informational meeting with you to determine if there is enough of a mutual fit that it is worth pursuing.
A lot of nonsense posted on here. Yes, you are just as eligible to be promoted whether you are office based or remote.
It depends on if you can improve the DEI score. Just identify yourself as another colourful, confused clown and climb the ladder!
I’m afraid the chances are close to zero.
Promoted to management, you must be near an office (maybe excluding sales).
Moved to another team, probably unlikely right now because hiring requirements right now mandate us to look for locals or outsource options.
As an employee you do what they say for a paycheck. The sense of entitlement is ludicrous.
"Not in this company, with this kind of "culture". You must obey, do as you are told and jump as they clap. Look for other opportunities."

In the US, if you aren’t near Seattle, San Jose, Boulder, or Spokane, your chances are small, generally speaking. Unless you’re in formal field sales. It varies depending on hiring manager and team and the requirements. Regardless, you need to provide value that they can’t find in anyone they can hire near those four offices.
Which department are you in?
