Leave of Absence - tips

Any tips for leave of absence? I am at my wits end. My manager is making things unbearable. The PDC cant come soon enough but sounds like its no better in other functions. This dashboard on in office is just the last straw. (Yes I am compliant, Yes I am one of the few on my team but my boss thinks riding me because I am doing my job is the way to get the ones not doing theirs solved). And now taking the low performers and 'reassigning them' so I get all their work is just....

2 EE's and a 2% raise. Its just not worth the mental frustration. I need a break.

Hang in there, OP. Before long there’s going to be a large wave of Permanent Leave of Absences taking place.

CES results are a joke. They didnt hit targets and in most cases were well below. Absolutely zero work to improve or even discuss. Just a yeah that was bad, but hey, lets shoot for xx number this year.

Out of sight, out of mind. I would not take a leave unless it's to care for a loved one or if I'm unable to work for health reasons. I know mental health is important as well, so if it's medically recommended, then take it. I know it's not the right thing to do, but you won't be viewed or discussed the same during a PDC.

Left after the 2nd stroke, Life is much better now. I only lasted till then because I liked the work, the pace, intensity and the people I worked with. Unfortunately for you it seems even that is not true. Please think about yourself and take a decision based on your financial strength.

Leave of absence is unpaid and there’s no guarantee of a position when you return. A better approach is to talk with your doctor and get a medical diagnosis that lets you go on short term disability (burnout, mental health, etc). Your boss sounds terrible…the CES is coming up in April so be honest and give your boss the ratings he deserves. Also, enter text comments to explain why he’s terrible…too many bosses explain away a bad numerical score with excuses (“they probably didn’t understand the scale, some people are just hard graders, etc) so make it very clear (without giving away your identity of course). Good luck to you. Morale is at an all time low and so many people are miserable because of what’s been going on.

Go to a therapist and see if they can take you off. Use words like burnout and depression. While off, first rest up, then start looking for a new job. Chevron is not the end all, be all.

Got let go in the mass exodus of 2020, thought it was the end of the world. Now I have a better job outside of O&G, less base salary but the bonus has me making more than I ever did at Chevron and it’s fully remote.

There is life after Chevron and it’s not worth your mental or physical health.

Unfortunately, welcome to the real world. You're not a HiPot or a management favorite so you can expect to work hard for little reward. I know it's no fun but jumping ship may only lead to other unexpected problems. Keep plugging away.

The company is falling apart fast. Morale is at an all time low and the employees are under extreme stress thanks to Executive management. We all need to just leave. Only thing left.

Dear OP: My heart goes out to you. Please take care of yourself. I regret that I put work above my own health. If something happens to one of us, CVX goes on without skipping a beat, so think of yourself first. I know that is easy for me to say, and I don’t know your circumstances, but, trust me, I have regrets and wish I would have prioritized my own needs. Best wishes to you.

You should do what makes you happy and gives you peace. Seriously, stress is a ki-ler. I wish you happiness.

2 EEs should be > 2% raise unless your %co is already WELL > 100%, like at least > 106%

Do you normally get 2EE’s on your perf reviews? If not, sounds like your manager is out to get you. Not unheard of these days for hard working / high performing folks in Chevron to have to pick up the slack for low performers on their team (while those low performers continue getting promotions).
