I don't know what's been going on lately, but I've been hearing about more and more people being outright fired - and for the smallest infractions. No severance, no nothing. I'm now thinking that it would be better to be laid off in the next round than have to face being fired for some bogus reason. At least I'd have some kind of a safety net that way.

According to the "Human Resources Policy Reduction in Force" document as of 2020, people who are "involuntarily terminated due to performance reasons" (i.e. not due to gross misconduct) will get somewhere between 2-8 weeks of severance pay. That sounds like a potential lawsuit if they didn't receive that unless terminated for gross misconduct
And you have to spend a considerable amount of time to get that $320 . Not only that but you can't get the unemployment in many states till after the pkg time-frame has passed, so even if they gave you a 16 week lump-sum, your not eligible in many states till after the 16th week after your let go.
Unemployment, that's laughable.... $320 a week. That equals $8 an hour. Even the deadbeat losers at fast food joints make $15 an hour and most of them are imbeciles!
Deadbeat losers is an interesting thing to call someone even there making more than you at the time. Just saying.
If that's truly the case, that's very sad. sounds rather cut throat, aggressive, unethical, and unprofessional. Nothing surprises me from them.
So how many people are you talking about? 10, 200, 1000? Are they all in the same business unit, reporting up to the same VP or executive?
Being part of the recent Nov 23 layoff, I received 16 weeks severance and I am supposed to receive a prorated STI. Very thankful for those 2 things.

This company shows so much Empathy! Please! Frauds!
Severance aside at least the state I live in you would get unemployment under those circumstances, and Lumen could not blast your reputation if you got fired, that would be attorney time. The only way one would not get unemployment where I live is by voluntarily resigning, or committing a chargeable offense that led to termination (IE as--ult, mu---r, or stealing from the company).
Sounds like unethical business practices.
And the severance for many is close to nothing anyways.
If you want people to leave, then buy them out.
In this economy nobody is going to land a job in a few weeks they get.
