Intel CEO admits 'I've bet the whole company on 18A'

"I’ve bet the whole company on 18A." So, says Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger in the most deadpan, matter-of-fact manner imaginable. He's not glib. He's not joking. Everything rides on Intel's 18A process according to Gelsinger.

Scared money does not go on further to use said money that has been put at risk i.e. "on the line" in order to profit and thus attain larger sums of money

I agree that there’s very little choice. The only alternative would have been to off manufacturing and try to compete as a design company with no competitive advantage. I like our chances better with Pat’s strategy

Successful Apple just dumped its decade long car. Do you believe in failing Intel God about 5N4Y or 4N5Y? Your choice isn't mine.

Why isn’t Pat not looking beyond 18A and preparing Intel fABs for the next big thing? He would tell you because he cannot see an immediate measurable “return on investment.” This is the same leadership we had in Otellini when he said no to the IPhone deal. Real leaders don’t spend time and money running after the big kids, they leap ahead. 1.4-nanometer and beyond should be the starting point.

There was an article in Forbes before 10nm where it said Intel "bets the farm" every process node. Intel is a manufacturing company first.

PG doesn't have any other choice because BK botched the transition to EUV so badly.
