Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Anymore Buy outs soon?

Anyone heard if there going to offer another buy out. I’m ready to get outta here, we have been riding a sinking ship forever now and there is no light at the end of windstream tunnel.

The new skills is a valid point. People should always be looking to improve their skills set to make them more desirable to a current or new employer. The job market isn't like it used to be and has evolved from people being at one job forever. Companies have changed their culture and us a worker need to adapt to that change to avoid living in a box.

Buyouts are normally offered at the end of the year. If they don’t get a desired amount to take the buyout a letter goes out to the various groups stating they will need to cut x number from their group. It’s a yearly cycle but the buyout number is getting less and therefore getting less older employees to leave.

The "new skills" argument isn't a bad one if you're younger, but people who are close to retirement usually aren't looking to up the "skill set" for a couple of more years before hanging it up. I don't blame those people for trying to ride it out. Heck, even if you're in your 50's, you're not at the top of the desirable age bracket. Most companies want younger employees they can mold into "their way".

Not to be a a-hole but why would you actively ride a sinking ship to the bottom of the ocean? Why not go learn some new skills and find a new job? Harder to live when you're not trying
