AI will not help you to code,but to replace the code to finish the job.
I agree none of the tools currently available are at the point of "replacing" a good dev...
However, I don't think anyone who has used ai tools, even in their current format, could deny the productivity increase is substantial.
So then the question becomes what does ELT do with all this additional productivity coming for their sw devs? I think we all know.
Also these tools are literally in their infancy... They're not even being productized heavily for specific tasks like coding yet.
The senior people in the typing pools of every large corporation in the 1970’s swore that the advent of the personal computer would never ever replace a solid trained typist. What they failed to foresee was that although typing itself grew, and thrived, it no longer required a pool of women on the 18th and 19th floors to create and file documents. We all ended up doing what they were specialized to do.
