Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

How does it feel, design engineers, to be trapped with no skills to jump?

I used to think I was in that position in DDG and then SDG. Left back in 2020.

I know how design engineers are feeling. You think you're too stupid to get a job anywhere else. Probably interviewed at Apple, Nvidia, AMD, Qualcomm, Microsoft, Amazon, etc. and realized the only other job you may be able to get would be scrub stuff. Probably just think you can only do d-mb stuff like integration or wrangling with in-house tool flows.

It's true for most of you.

At the sh1tshow of a company known as Intel, you have to fight so hard to develop even the barest of technical skills.

Now seeing the stock prices of Nvidia, AMD, ARM (for some weird low float reason...), and even Microsoft rocket since then, while INTC has stayed mostly stagnant must su-k. Engineers other than you have made boatloads of money and developed actual useful technical skills.

There was such a culture of information hoarding and backstabbing for Staff levels and above that it's honestly traumatizing to think back on. You have these Principal Engineers who are just hanging on to a sinking ship till they can hit some semblance of retirement age, sc--wing over junior engineers who don't realize until it's too late.

I guess with this ramblings of a former INTC employee, I feel so good just gloating how much of a sh1t company INTC continues to devolve to.

The propaganda is strong with this one.
Vader may be giving you a call.

Nvidia - all they did was repurpose a graphics card
Apple - use cheap labor in China to make their overpriced products
Google - 70% of the money comes from advertising, try brave
Amazon - shipping company, did not pay interstate taxes, cheap products from china
Microsoft - old , tyrannical, use linux
Netflix - up and down, movies are a thing of the past, the older movies even with cr-ppier special effects are still better, they have more character like fight club

@2qdq - YOU don't buy or sell or need anything on Facebook. YOU are the product on Facebook.

@2qdq
Conveniently forgets…

Nvidia - leading the AI revolution
Apple - pocket supercomputers for everyone
Google - instant access and index for all human knowledge
Amazon - ability to buy virtually anything delivered to your door in 2 days
Microsoft - personal computing software for everyone
Netflix - on demand entertainment for the masses

Yeah Facebook is lame, but you forgot everything else.

"multiple FAANG level companies"
They pay well but produce jack.
Most of them make their money from advertising, using cheap labor, or not paying interstate taxes. It appears they su-k the life out of the rest of the US economy and culture. And don't be fooled by their stock price. It does not reflect the actual usefulness they have to society. What do you buy or need from Facebook?

Don't be mad because you couldn't make it at Intel. It sounds like you are at another company and they have given you a position that you can handle. I know it is upsetting that they are now asking you to prepare to work on a new chip fabbed by IFS. Just do the best u can.

Intel cannot fab its own chip at 10 nm, any real product at 3nm yet (?) and managers still think it is easy for them to lead again at 1.8 nm even most of them don't know the new tools and how to operate them. See the logic here? It doesn't matter how good design engineers are, Intel cannot fab anymore advanced chips. It is done at standstill point and waiting to collapse sooner than expected.

INTC is not going away anytime soon for sure.

Are you sure?

If they can’t succeed on 18A they’re done.
Server share is falling off a cliff.
Client is about to get road ki-led by AMD strix and mounting ARM threats from Apple and Qualcomm.

It’s pretty grim.

You mean wearing cowboy boots, American flags and scowling at Chinese workers won’t save Intel? Say it ain’t so! LOL!

@mvp+1rfleuhs You assume there can't be a better world, because you can't see a better world. Lack of imagination is what's holding Intel back

The only explanation of why people stay at Intel is that they’re too mediocre to get a job elsewhere.

The good ones left a long time ago.

Good luck competing with actual talent at AMD, Nvidia and so on.

@mvp+1rfleuhs Of course aspects of stuff like information hoarding and general politics exists at every company.

The issue is the "degree".

As someone who has worked at multiple FAANG level companies, INTC is by far the worst. The brain drain of solid engineers has been real since 2013ish. All that's left is chaff who are too d-mb to leave and have to survive based on politics.

INTC is not going away anytime soon for sure. But to become bleeding edge again? Please. I'll listen once IFS actually lands a major customer. Patty G is "trying" to right the ship (anyone remember his Itanic?), but I don't think even he realized the sh1tshow he was coming into

Welcome to every company out there. What you describe is a personality problem, not a company problem.
