OP who stated I "meant well." Please don't try to psychoanalyze or give me a lecture, I too have been laid off from this company I spent the past 4 years working for as an out of graduate school student looking to make this her career. You clearly sought to single me out and jump on the down votes because, like me, you are all angry and sad. I will never understand what it is like of the thoughts and emotions circulating in your heads, but do not take it out on someone who is in the same boat. My grief here is different, and I choose to look at this as an inflection point where things will also be tough for me! I again ask that instead of now singling coworkers out because of understandable anger and sadness, that this means a time for space and eventually moving towards the next chapter. I am sorry, sincerely, to anyone I upset in my original post.

Large impact in my dept in EO today. People laid off with a 30 day notice - required to work 30 days before layoff starts.

I'm in CPSS supporting Medicare Enrollment. I also think Cigna will buy us later this year. I've heard of a lot of layoffs in different areas like IT and those who were supporting commercial.

To the OP for the post starting "To everyone across the company, I know this hurts and you are angry and sad..."

I know you're trying to help and encourage. But the issue is that, for most of us, this isn't just a "job". It's how we support ourselves and our families financially; where losing it, and not being able to find a new one, can significantly damage our ability to afford food, housing, medications, child care, etc. Some may have to uproot and move to a new location find a new job.

For some if us, it's a career; where we envisioned ourselves working for a long time, maybe even until retirement. Maybe for others, it's a place where we were proud to work, where our coworkers became family and with whom we shared life's successes and failures. Maybe for others our jobs were fulfilling, and we felt daily satisfaction with the work we did. Only for it all to suddenly end. And even if you aren't the one laid off (this time), watching your coworkers get laid off can only affect your morale and fear of losing the above.

In any case, I know you mean well, but I feel it's not helpful right now. And the guarantee that it will all be better in the end may not be true for everyone laid off. I sincerely hope it will, but who's to know?

Good luck to all my coworkers today, next week, and in the future. Praying..

In what department at Humana do you work? I’m also at Humana (in provider contracting) and also monitoring this site since the proposed acquisition last year (which I think will still happen later this year). Just curious.

That isn’t accurate. It’s:

1 and 2: advocates and representatives (claim processors, call advocates, etc.)
3: Supervisors and analysts
4: managers, advisors
5: directors
6: managing directors
7: vps
8: ELT

And every band has “senior” option too (ex: senior advisor) for when you’re at the high end of that band and can be promoted into the next band level.

Career bands

1 = janitors etc
2 = call center etc
3 = analysts etc
4 = sr analyst, mid mgt etc
5 = Directors, VPs, etc
6 = C suite

Can anyone explain what the bands mean? I've seen people say band 4, 5, etc but can't find the meaning online.

I work at Humana but have been monitoring this site for both Cigna and Humana to get a sense of what's going on.

How many years of svc?

What is your termination date?"

What departments have been impacted so far? It's been quiet this morning for my team, I'm questioning what next Thursday will look like.

To everyone across the company, I know this hurts and you are angry and sad. Please know this will take time to process but it does come to a time where you reconcile, and it ends up being better in the end. Whether that will take you months or even close to a year. Nothing, and I mean nothing will ever take away all these years and hard work you put in and know that we aren't the only ones dealing with layoffs in the corporate world, and that having this on your resume is still a plus.

I am with the comments from the 10/12 layoffs, I was one of them as well. Performance was great, no rhyme or reason so please keep that in mind. When it happens, it's natural to feel mad and hurt, it feels personal.
You WILL be fine. It has worked out wonderfully for me and while only 4 months have lapsed, I would never think I could be this happier. Things have a funny way or working, it may just take time that's all but you will be ok. Hang in there!

So for you; did you get a 10/12 notification date with a termination date a month later?

Yes! 1:1 on a Thursday morning (non-pay week). Was told to log off but I didn’t. I had emails to wrap up. Teams to communicate to and make sure they had everything they needed. I worked Friday to get my laptop cleared out. They stopped my ability to print from my laptop. (Crazy). They had my access terminated at 5 PM that afternoon.

Good luck to all of you tomorrow. As someone who was completely blindsided at 8:30 am on 10/12, I’ve been there and it does get better.

I absolutely have to agree here…same scenario above. I promise there is life after. In fact, a pretty darn good one that I had overlooked for so long due to the workload and the never ending urgency due to the poor planning of those in charge of aligning the work.
Just take a breath and get ready to be shewed out the door within 24 hours.
Best of Luck
