I have an interview next week. What do they do for Blue Cross more precisely? Recruiter was vague and could not explain.

As you can see, there are people who really don’t like the strategy group. We could speculate on why that is. But the reality is that strategy has a key role in the growth of the business. Far better than the previous “strategy” group or whatever they were called. It may be that this department is holding some feet to the fire and making people deliver in a timely manner on big projects. Real work, in other words. And that makes people mad especially if they prefer status quo and not having to show real results. Now, let’s laugh as the dislikes pile up on this post.
I shall provide you with a substantive response. That group is responsible for setting the company’s business priorities and producing and managing the annual business plan. The department also looks for opportunities to grow the business through acquisition. One of the recent big business announcements was led by this group. Another business add over the past couple of years was spearheaded by Strategy. Some business organizational changes are led by the group. Best of luck with your interview.
Hate to say it, but mostly an overbilled and bloated group. That org has been growing like crazy for the past year. While it's easy to read the other comments here as cynical they are mostly true. They're really prioritizing hiring people with consulting backgrounds, but the problem is none of those people really know how to execute. None of them understand how HCSC works, it's structure, who does what and who they need to involve. It'd be a great stepping stone to a better external opp, but with how many directors they've hired on with no direct reports I'd expect huge cuts there when they inevitably fail to produce any real results.
What do they do precisely? Fill out business cases (paperwork) while pretending it's a far grander exercise than it is
The strategy group is nothing but an internal consulting firms that bills itself. Useless would be an overstatement! These guys and girls.
They attend a lot of meetings and plan solutions that will never be funded and eventually discarded.
