Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

3 years of Pat

It’s been 3 years now since Pat took over as CEO.

Has there been any measurable improvements at Intel in this time?

Revenue is down.
Margins are down.
Products are not competitive.

Any positives?

I don't think it is fair to blame Pat for where we are at. In 2009 Pat got pushed out of the company. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that he was in charge of the team that was making Larabee. Which would have been Intel's discrete graphics card.

Now they do have a product to compete with amd / nvidia but being late to the party is never a good place in a technology company.

It's not a ceo issue. Stupid intel culture needs to go, they still act like its 1990.

OP asks for positives and nobody can cite anything meaningful with measurable metrics.

Too many BAD investments (buying worthless Israeli companies just to pump money into Israel).

Too many promotions to Manager's favorites (PEs, SENIOR PEs, Fellows, Senior Fellows) who are doing grade 8-9 work but getting paid 100K more than they deserve!

It took Steve Jobs roughly 3 years to fix Apple… just sayin’!

Things to watch..

18A is better than TSMC.
Nope - TSMC N2 PDKs already look better.

Unquestioned leadership - nope. Meteor lake is a dud. Epyc still taking share. Gaudi is a dud - check the announced customer list

Breakeven on IFS in 2027. This will be fun to watch.

We landed a whale for 18A. Sure you did.

Keep talking Pat!
Everyone but him seems to be aware of the clown show.

Foot-in-mouth incidents are way up, so at least one metric is trending up!

  1. Apple is Lifestyle company
  2. AMD in the rear view mirror
  3. Nvidia is very lucky

Pat was in a tough spot, he couldn't beg Sleepy Joe for funds while firing a bunch of folks (bad optics). So, as soon as the Chips Act checks are fully cashed, and with the stock lagging the rest of the market, foundry operating in the red (and no whale in sight), he will have plenty of reasons to finally do what he's been waiting 3 years to do, which is right size the org. Better start working on the resume folks....

After too many years of catastrophic damage with BK and Swan piloting the ship, what was the alternative? This industry punishes poor performance. Going from 90+ % share in the server market to 50% has zero to do with Pat. Falling behind on process has nothing to do with Pat. Allowing competitors to push ahead in design as was obvious more than three years ago has nothing to do with Pat. It may not be fixable, but at least attribute blame fairly.

“One of the most suboptimal CEOs we’ve seen in a while” - Jim Cramer…

So if even Jimmy sees it, that should tell you a lot…

Intel is unfixable.
It’s a long road to failure and no CEO would want this job. Except Pat… he has some weird ego thing going on since he is essentially an Intel lifer.

A lot of careers have ended over past 2 years and....
A lot of shareholder value destroyed during Pat's tenure as CEO
What is strange is that the BoD seems indifferent about this?

He is tasked to do one thing right and that is to put the company six feet under and by the looks of it he's going on the right path

AMD is already in rearview mirror. Within next few years Nvidia, Apple, Google, Microsoft will be in rearview mirror and Intel stock will be to the moon.

"AMD is in our rearview mirror."

Why? Did we spin out and are now looking backwards?

I think quite a few including setting the tone to break up the company - , issue is there are more negatives - that clown CS for a start .. missing AI ; this AI PC nonsense and not firing the exec staff that are clearly clueless
