What it means for you: You can work for Seagate for 25 years. Once you leave Seagate for any reason laid off, fired, found another job you are out of luck if you become permanently disabled. Social Security will not consider the income you earned at Seagate in determining how much SSDI you deserve. They only consider your earnings at other companies who do not opt for private disability insurance, You may get as little as $200 a month if Seagate was your first real job. RUN!!

"Disability payments from private sources, such as a private pension or insurance benefits, do not affect your Social Security disability benefits."
Now go away.
Social security is the biggest rip off scam the government ever came up with. Go ahead and add up your lifetime tax contribution and times a 5% return to figure out you would be a millionaire just on that at 60. Please just give me all my money back I ever put in and I’d be ecstatic.
