The last post is spot on except for to survive there it is about networking and presentations and nothing to do with doing decent work and the right thing……
Project management is not valued at all.
In fact I’d go as far to say that there are areas where people have no clue what they are doing but are “project managing” critical projects. Hosting a zoom call and sitting there doing nothing but taking some notes (which by the way go nowhere).
Presentations only hold value for the few minutes they are looked at. Networking naturally happens as a result of working through dependencies.
It’s not about networking or presentations. It’s about planning and dependency management. More importantly it’s about breaking down a problem and constructing a plan in order to facilitate efficient delivery.
It’s true that presentation skills and networking are more valued than actually doing the right work
