The only reason I see MS buying Lumen is to compete with Amazons infrastructure. Aws has surpassed azure and their overhead costs on infrastructure is very low.
The problem is. Infrastructure when built right can last 50+ years as copper showed us. But with 99% of the new builds being done by contractors the quality of the work is half a$$ed and yeah on paper the capital gains are there but realistically you just need someone with half a brain to pull up NDS and see how big of a cr4p shoot it all really is…
My hopes are they do buy Lumen simply so I can put on my resume as MS employee rather than Lumen

Doesn’t matter who buys us. Until they get rid of the upper management from 20 years ago it will be the same sh-t show.

mass markets is also going to google cloud

not just qf

this is just a small example of how lumen cant even agree on a single cloud platform

of course they don't have the skillsets to work on either

Sell qf to a firm without the overhead and being too top heavy. They waste all the money before it gets to the actual technician doing their work.

qf cloud is google, lumen is using microsoft cloud

sell off qf and thats not a problem any more

You have to be Microsoft to work at Lumen.

The data lake is being moved to google cloud.

I'm sure MS wouldn't be in support of that.

There is no way MS would want this company right now.

Sure, there is 10% that might be desirable. It's the other 90% and debt that are not.

"If MS was on the brink of buying Lumen, would they be moving to Google Cloud Platform?"

Using Google Cloud for what?

Kate is hiring her pals and people she knows, not submarining MS execs. She was the head of only one business unit at MS, before she was let go, and didn't change the culture of the entire company at all.

Lumen still isn't a tech company no matter how hard they clap their hands.

It really makes no sense whatsoever.

If MS was on the brink of buying Lumen, would they be moving to Google Cloud Platform?

I don't think so.

MS is prime to buyout Lumen. As soon as Lumen sheds off some of the business that has nothing to do with the core focus of fiber and Exaswitch. All of the hosting and consulting parts are on the butcher block. Just as Lumen kicked the debt can down the road, a buyer can do the same. Maybe Lumen can trick a buyer just as Level3 did when merging with Centurylink. KJ has a job and it's called an exit strategy.

"They are transforming company to digital and IT services which could fit need for MS."

huh? Microsoft is clearly betting their future on AI, look at their investments.

buying a bloated telecom with $25 billion with a capital B in debt helps that how?

"transforming the company to digital" - yeah, making copilot available to everyone so they can summarize the dare to lead training doesn't make it something which would be beneficial to microsoft.

sorry to dump the cold splash of reality on you but maybe look at it from an outsider view not someone on the inside desperately wishing for a good outcome.

you know, like the stock market does. if it was really a likely an acquisition target do you think the stock would be $1.38? Let me remind you over 5 years the S&P 500 is up 81%.

Lumen is down 89%.

too long a time period? ok, over the last year S&P 500 is up 28%.

Lumen is down 43%.

I think it’s very likely. Goal is to shrink Lumen that is why all the sell off to make it attainable for MS to buy. They are transforming company to digital and IT services which could fit need for MS. It’s possible Lumen is broken up and some of the areas and groups acquired by MS

Never gonna happen! This ship is sinking and no one is coming to the rescue. Find a life boat and get off or go down with it?

why would Microsoft want to buy it? to own a carrier backbone? maybe, but i can't imagine it wouldn't be cheaper to just buy the services they need (azure connectivity) from others vs owning an entire network which they have to support.

you think they want to get in the end consumer internet and voice business? he-l no.

remaining data center/CO ("edge") footprint? same, why bother? cheaper and more cost efficient to lease space as you need it.

gaining another 30000 employees? ok, maybe 25000 after this month. nope.

oh and there's the $20B+ of debt - yeah, the microsoft shareholders would love to take on some of that.

as someone else said, if there's anything they really want they can pick it up at a chapter 11 fire sale.

Kate seems to be lining us up for something like that. Shes filling management roles with ex-Microsoft execs. She brought Dare To Lead into Microsoft before she brought it here so we will be used to their culture already. They are getting lean and focused. Maybe they sell off some more parts of us to make us more attractive to a buyer. I highly doubt we go into bankruptcy anytime soon.
And with all the RIFs, itll look good in the quarterly results when our operating costs go down and profits go up because of it...and the stock price will follow.

That wont happen. Why would anybody buy all of Lumens debt when they could wait a year or two and pick up the assets they want in bankruptcy court at 1/10 the current price?

MS has no interest in purchasing Lumen. Why would you think they would? Because Book Club Kate worked there for a couple of years before getting fired?
