Cell Phone Stipend

The company is cutting the cell phone stipend in order to streamline our spending. How much money can that possibly save? Certainly not enough to make a big impact on the bottom line at the expense of the customer experience. For a supposedly customer obsessed company reducing the ability for employees to be reached by cell phone. What a joke. If they're willing to make this cut what else are they willing to cut?

Unsure, just another stupid silo'd decision that some VP made to save some bottom line budget $, so he could get a bonus.

"They took away my departments cell phone stipend 7 or 8 years ago. " - Flip Phone Floyd

You must know the company really well, so what happened 7 or 8 years ago that they took away your department stipend?

My stipend is taken away too. To that person saying that we don’t need stipend for using our personal phone, the problem isn’t us using our personal phone. It’s that we were responsible to answer calls on the weekends and midnights. I can turn my personal phone off to go to sleep. If there is an unexpected event, which happens everyday at our work. I will work it if it’s in business hours. If not, they can sc--w themselves.

I won't be answering my phone after 5 pm anymore unless it's a personal number I know.

It was called a "Wireless Stipend" which is not specific to cell phones. It was to help offset cell phones, and internet for the many who work oustide an office cubicle. Years back the company sliced up the stipend into two categories which was paid out $50 or $30 depending on employee job role. The stipend was legit for helping to pay for personal services being used for work. Now all they have done is to tell all the employees that using your personal services to support the company is a cost on you the employee thereby reducing your income. This move is also in concert with the RIF that is about to come. In the RIF the severance payout will be calculated without the stipend. The company is sc--wing all the employees, even those being cut in the RIF.

"We never had reimbursement for using the personal phone. There's no need. Why would anyone do it or why should the company reimburse you for using your personal phone for business."

Because back in the day companies used to give you a work cell phone. Then they took that away and paid you to use your personal cellphone. Now they took the stipend away. They used to give you office space and a phone on a desk and they took that away. Then office space turned into a chair at a long table in the office with no phone on the desk. Then they cut half the size of the office and you're lucky if you can even get a chair at that table anymore.
So now they tell you to work from home where YOU pay for electricity and internet access and HVAC and your phone and they still want more.
See how it works?

Had a company issued phone. They took it and put me on the stipend. Nothing like taking vacation and the phone is receiving calls from work. They are no longer paying I will no longer use my phone for work. So Do you bring your own tools to work or is the company Skopje to supply the tools. Why use your personal phone?

Some of the technicians use cell phones for personal use. They take the phone home, stream YouTube, watch news articles, etc
