Germany's statutory health insurance (SHI). Look it up. It consists of competing, not-for-profit, nongovernmental health insurance plans known as sickness funds. Americans should DEMAND this system from our government.
I agree. We act like there's no solution to the sh---y system we have today. It wasn't always like this, the "Health Maintenance Organization Act", making health insurance profiteering LEGAL, was passed in 1973. If we really wanted to we could force the government to pass a law to make health insurance profiteering illegal again and put all the ill gotten insurance company gains back into healthcare system. OP for prez!
It's something I've been seriously considering, though I'm having trouble finding what that is. Even a few non-profits that I've looked into pay their executives a huge amount of the donated money, and very little to those they claim to be helping. Many (most?) big corporations seem to be price-gauging customers, and again, keeping profits for executives and shareholders. How has it all come to this? It's really awful and disheartening. Any suggestions and guidance would be much appreciated. I'd really like to find something different.
Health insurance has gotten more convoluted over the years, but it is what it is. Medicaid plans often do not adhere to Medicare guidelines and that is nothing new. Each State often has their own set of rules. It sounds like Centene is the only place some of you have ever worked. It's a big world out there, go try out a different insurance company or a completely different type of career instead of complaining.
If we are really honest with ourselves, Centene profits off poverty...that whole narrative of "supporting our most vulnerable communities" is total bs!
Their profits are built on pick-pocketting the government in the name of "caring" for the elderly/disabled, poor people, and the incarcerated.
It was always nauseating to watch the videos shared during town halls of Centene swooping in to "save the day" for some disenfranchised person that somehow didn't know they should not indulge in junk food as a diabetic...meanwhile the actual caseworkers I knew were drowning and could barely make outreach goals.
If you’ve ever thought that this company was ever about anything else but making money you’re simply delusional.
Reality check: You show up to work every day because you get paid to do it. You aren’t altruistic about your employment either. If they stopped paying you, you’d stop working.
Worry about the stuff you can control. The state of healthcare in America isn’t going to change anytime soon.
Worry about things that you can control.
Don’t disparage the OP’s disdain for the sad state of healthcare in America, the predatory nature of health insurance, providers, and the cruel and obvious realization that it’s no longer, and perhaps it’s never been, about patient health. Profits dominate. It’s an exquisite betrayal, and it hurts. No matter how long it takes for you to ‘read the article’. It’s not changing, folks. We do our best with this information. We find a way to work a job which satisfies our desire to help others and make a living. Or we make peace with the situation as it is, do our best, and take pride in our efforts. We support each other. We gotta play by the rules, and this is how it’s always been. It’s happening everywhere - all the managed care companies. Slashing costs and trimming teams, outsourcing, AI. Biggest losers are consumers and workers. Educate yourself, stay ahead of what is coming and going. Some good old Situational Awareness. Don’t burn bridges- it only hurts you! Professional, non-emotional and focus on things that matter and make you happy. Good luck. People do care.
3 year old article you couldnt figure that out until you got pi---d at your job?
I struggle with this every day. I hate how we have rebranded claim denials to “edits.” I hate how most of our “edits” are grossly out of date and no longer (assuming they ever were) supported by Medicare guidelines
Agreed.
