Thread regarding CDW layoffs

Anyone Laid Off Find a Comparable Job?

I’m losing hope right now. I was one of those “expensive” folks laid off at the top of their salary band (and due to new strategic plan… but would not take a pay cut for new role to stay). The job market is vastly different this year. Salaries for mid-senior level professionals are 25-30% lower and most jobs are hybrid or on-site, neither of which are a problem for me, but many involve relocating. I’m fine to relocate, but will I do so for $10,000? Heck no. That wouldn’t even cover the commission I would have to pay to sell my house… then there’s the whole giving up a 2.5% interest rate for one that is 6%.

Has anyone laid off fully recovered? Give me hope.

For those at CDW, don’t jump until you’ve secured another job.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.
My suggestion is to jump right into it the first day after you are gone. Use their outplacement resume writing, and work your network. Avoid LinkedIn, Indeed, Dice, etc. I found many companies posting ghost jobs. Like other severed folks telling me their new company is having waves of layoffs, while advertising 30-50 positions. Direct exec contacts were telling me they were on hold for hiring. So, work your previous contacts directly. If you werent a total jerk, they will generally give you a few leads each. Also, until you have that job, your job is to find a job :) So get up every day, find 1-2 positions, tweak your resume, send in the apps, call a couple folks from your contacts, find some free online training for something, and treat yourself to coffee on the patio or something. Rinse. Repeat.

I went through three iterations of multiple interviews, and promises of 'offer letters' that never came. But 8 months later, a previous work contact reached back out and offered a lead on a position, and I suddenly found myself with two offers in one week, after eight months. Just Keep on swimming....

Honestly, no, I wouldn’t have stayed for a 30k pay cut, even with the job market as it is. The Global Career Matrix thing they developed was designed to optimize automation and offshoring. The funny thing is that for a tech company, CDW is years behind current trends in their own operations and lacks a solid, proactive strategic plan. Perhaps the problem is rooted in the fact that the leaders by and large are not “tech” people themselves.

I’m one of the fortunate ones who can still pay bills through contract work. Hustling is harder than a FT job though.

Oof. In hindsight, would you have stayed for 30k less?

If you don't mind, how significant was the pay cut for the new role CDW offered?

I landed within 15% (under of course) with cheaper insurance and better benefits. Took a while though and I am now hybrid instead of remote.
