Belk corporate is telling me we own our mall store building, mall management is saying belk leases the space. I’m thinking mall management is telling the truth. Mall management says space at the mall was never for sale and every tenant in the mall is renting. they are lying directly to my face.

They are renting! All stores in malls rent the space.
My flagship GOLDEN mall store is a hybrid, if you will. Main (largest) building was originally built by Parisian and is now, of course, owned by Belk. An adjacent building, added later and built by the mall, is rented. These two buildings function, though, as one due to the adjacency and generous pass-through openings.
