Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

Article about Dell and their hybrid model disproportinately hurting women (and more)

Seems like the numbers are starting to come in for organizations that are requiring a hybrid or fully back in the office model. Appears that being remote will now impact ability to be promoted (much like Anthem) & studies are finding it is disproportinately impacting women in a negative way. For a company like Anthem that states they are an inclusive workplace - this hybrid work model proves otherwise. Reducing remote work opportunities literally equates to you obliterating an inclusive work culture. These policies negatively impact those who are already held back in the workplace. So congrats Anthem for wanting to be a part of this type environment? How long do you think it will take until there are class action lawsuits against these organizations who are requiring this? Much less the bad press that is inevitably coming because in this day in age of social media we are already seeing that this type of information spreads like wildfires. I really thought Anthem cared about DEI & ensuring fair opportunities? To @auwb+1rFefXhB. I'm sorry you're so miserable in the office. I believe there are exceptions that can be made. Just have to get a medical excuse and work with your manager. No one should feel that going into the office. Explore.. you may options and resources

@ 2gju+1rFefXhB good for you. I hate in office. It severely affects my mental health. Why? Gossip, backstabbing, feeling trapped. If YOU want to go in office, have at it and keep quiet. To each is own. But your shout out to in office isnt mosts cup of tea.

So the hybrid model is Gail’s pet project. Being a boomer she was aghast when she found out that the Admins were working from home and recalled all of them into the office in her first week in the job. The message to all, the admins? You work in an office 100% now or be fired… it doesn’t matter where the person is that you support. I’m sure she wants us all in the offices 100% of the time if she could get away with it. Every day we become more like United. She’s 64 this year, maybe we’ll get a reprieve and she’ll retire.

It is unfortunate that women are overwhelmingly affected in the Dell situation. But on the other hand, if we (I am female) want to be equal to men at work, then it does not matter, we go to work onsite. What is not fair is if a woman bears the bigger responsibility of child rearing (not using day care) or elder care. Then this is a relationship problem that needs to be discussed between partners.

From a male counterpart to my female counterparts...I stand with you for equality!! You work hard and deserve equal and nothing less!!

My take on this topic...This has nothing to do with remote or OPW, but rather equality for both genders. Seems simple enough!

I am always reminded by the company:
"Be grateful you have a job, or we replace you with another recently graduated H-1b visa."

Then the company replaces us anyway.

I wanted to get this out here from a different perspective: it actually was really hard for me to work remotely. I didn't like it. I got depressed. I'm glad to be back into the office. I go couple days a week for four or five hours and finish the day off at home. When I'm in the office I see handshakes and hugs and people happy to see one another again, making plans on the days the go in so they're there on the same days. I see people laughing and sharing good times together. Yes for those coming in to the office should take precedence over remotely working individuals. Victims ? Lord people stop whining. Most of us worked in the office before the pandemic, those who were granted OPW or work from home and now being made to come that's a big change, I get that. Be grateful you have a job ! Maybe things could be better, but that's everywhere. Blessings

This seems to be sent from a corporate tool. And I reject the implication that women are inferior to men for not going into the office. We have proven we can get the job done.

Women aren't looking for or expecting preferential treatment and are not playing victim. Women want equally, fair treatment and the same salary as male counterparts for doing the same job and holding the same position and responsibilities. This is NOT playing victim!
