Recently, I was the only team member laid off, quite unexpectedly, considering my consistent high performance and recognition for solving complex issues. It seems decisions beyond individual performance were at play, specifically relating to budget considerations and vendor priority alignments. This has been a reflective moment, understanding how broader organizational strategies can impact personal career paths. Curious if anyone else has experienced something similar, especially in scenarios where high salary and vendor relationships were factors. My journey concluded last Friday, marking a new chapter ahead. Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Farewell.

Citi is like the company in the movie, Office Space, Initech. Initech hired a consulting firm like BCG to decide who gets laidoff. They decide after 15 minute interviews with each employee who will get the Axe. The similarities between Citi and this movie are sad, frightening and hysterical. Hence, the satirical black comedy genre. The consultants have NO Fvcken idea what employees work on, whose work is important, why, etc.. However, they insouciantly, subjectively, whimsically and cluelessly FIRE anyone based on trivial, incorrect and incomplete conclusions. by Anonymous Post ID: @3scd+1r5BUstr
I am sorry you lost your job. I know of excellent workers who were let go in January. I can think of one lady who was a top performer and had more than a decade of experience and still was let go. So the analysis as to what contributes to be picked is solely in the hands of the company and the consulting group assisting Citi.
@OP+1rAzsIRa Best of luck to you. I was hoping people on here would have more positive and nicer responses. I'm sorry you went through an unfortunate experience. Now that it's all over breathe and try not to care the baggage/hurt from this company to your next journey. I wish you well.
You probably werent as good at your job as you thought.
Unfortunately, MD, Director- IC are still continuing in Risk Management function .
I wonder why Citi is paying so much money to these folks? BTW, these are group MD favorites.
Unfortunately, expensive individual contributors will be a target. But, let's be honest - in 90%+ of the cases expensive (SVP or D) level contributors cannot do more than a much cheaper VP. Banking is a profession where experience means nothing - it is notas if you are a brain surgeon or a plane pilot 😂
