Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

So MANY jobs being listed under Evernorth in Hyderabad, Telangana, India

I saw this link from another post. You have to copy and pate the link into browser to see the amount of jobs Cigna is posting under Evernorth all in India.

https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/search?keywords=Evernorth&location=Greater%20Hyderabad%20Area&geoId=90009650&trk=public_jobs_jobs-search-bar_search-submit&position=1&pageNum=0

It's ridiculous how Cigna is laying off US workers and outsourcing jobs to India. This is not a company I am proud to work for. Cigna is turning into a private US health insurance company providing care and benefit solutions to US residents and US employer groups with the support of outsourced labor in India.

We have hired several people in India for IT jobs. More to come. Goal is 7000 IT jobs in Hyderabad over the next 3 years. Blame greedy stockholders. They have been the demise of American corporations for a long time

Stop anthropomorphizing. Businesses don't give a fu-k about people. Sorry if this is news to anyone here. DC is running this business with his own and shareholders' enrichment as his number one priority. Any effort by some internal department or person to make employees "feel" good about their employment or the company is of far lower priority than DC's #1 above. #reality

Yes, 81 open postings. Only posted externally that I’ve seen. Typically around here, when something seems fishy it usually is. Never seen this much chaos, disruption and toxic atmosphere as I do now.
Anyone else recall it ever being this bad?

“I don't know of anyone getting approval to hire new positions in Hyderabad or anywhere else.”
Cigna is posting openings on LinkedIn. Either they are catfishing job seekers (which is disgusting and shameful) or they are hiring employees openly. If they were only trying to convert contractors the job postings would only be available on Cigna’s careers site.

The discussions I've been in have been focusing on replacing existing contractors in India through various staffing firms with employees in India, since firms are more expensive. I don't know of anyone getting approval to hire new positions in Hyderabad or anywhere else.

The why is simple. Cigna does not care about its employees and will discard them for cheaper employees. Those cheaper employees are likely wonderful people who will take years to get towards the same operational level as current US ones. There is nothing wrong with India, Mexico, and Ireland. But there are cultural differences and in two cases significant language barriers. Rutherford, many Americans would be deeply unsettled knowing that their protected health information is handled and stored overseas, regardless of how secure it is.

Ultimately the issue is layoffs for cheaper offshoring. I would be happy if it was simply expanding globally, but I am sick to my stomach knowing that it will instead be ruining peoples lives just to make some extra cash for C-suite and shareholders when Cigna is already making record profits. It is disgusting.

It was not for you OP . There are some comments which clearly were directed against India . The next Cigna office is indeed going Ireland and Mexico . People should understand these countries and their people is not the root of this issue . The senior leadership has decided this and one should ask them the “Why” instead of taking your frustration out on people and countries.

Cigna may have a global footprint but Cigna does not operate with a global mindset.

I took the enterprise mindset training and what a joke. Let’s start at the top and see if the executive team practice what they preach.

OP here, nothing against India nor Indians, everything to do with US jobs being outsourced. If Cigna jobs went to Ireland, Philippines, or Mexico, it would all be the same. A Sh!t show

Whoever wrote this, for your information the biggest tech company CEOs are Indians, so just wake up from your privileged bubble. “It doesn't matter where you are coming from. All that matters is where you are going.”
“Imagine moving tech jobs to a country where blackouts are the norm and indoor plumbing is not”

Yes , I am an Indian and concerned about jobs too. Jobs will move to Ireland too.
That doesn’t mean I will start looking down upon Irish people .

“If I call Cigna customer support and get an Indian on the line, I will probably drop my Cigna health insurance and get on my wife’s plan.“

This isn’t problematic at all…

Some of y’all are an eye-roll here

Does anyone know if these are net new jobs, or postings to turn existing contractors there into FTEs? I think that was mentioned in a previous tech town hall. Also, I can’t find evidence of these roles when looking at the company job boards, only through LinkedIn which feels odd…

Cigna should lead by example. Cigna's main business is to provide private health insurance and services to members of US employer groups. So if all of our clients "US employer groups" start outsourcing their jobs to India, there will be no clients. What Cigna is doing is disgusting.

Give these 2-3 years and I PROMISE you; 100%, Cigna will reverse course and realize what a hasty decision this was to achieve short-term profits. It will cause abrasion with patients expecting quality service, cause potential data leaks, and hire people who aren't remotely qualified to take on any sort of these jobs. What is also sad is im sure the Indian employees are nice people who in turn are going to get sc--wed over too in the end.

Most prod support or work that needs less coordination will move to offshore office. From business point of view, it makes sense. But not sure what thier long term plan is. Also heard they want complete projects run from offshore. That will be a bummer.

I had to call customer service this past week…spoke to a guy named Jason, who could not speak English. Sad times and not the company I knew Cigna to be. I honestly can’t wait to sit back and watch the frustration ensue.

4 to 5 years from now they will be shutting down the Hyderabad facility because if there isn’t a massive data breach, or losing customers who get sick of dealing with customer service that can barely speak English, the cultural difference in how “innovation” happens will cause more problems than the savings are worth. So just remember, Cigna does not care about you or their customers. The only things that matters is short term profits for shareholders even if it costs more in the long run. But layoffs are easy money and too hard to resist. The culture has Cigna has gotten so gross.

This will be a costly move.

It’s a trap that many US tech companies have fallen into. The siren’s song of cheap labor.
