Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

One in Six of being let go - then what should I be doing if I am in that 15% planned?

If our chances are 1 in 6 at Xerox of losing our job - if my Doctor said I had a 1 in 6 chance of dyeing in the next month, I would be preparing (making sure everything was in order). Just in case I am getting laid off soon, what should I be doing?

... checking cost of medical via Cobra, by sent note viaChat to BenefitWeb asking cost and coverage - also checking how long my life insurance is good for once separated
... Updating all of my beneficiaries on 401K and other plans just in case it becomes harder to access in future - getting print out of value or money in old retirement plan
... Checking terms of my Xerox provided vehicle and phone on return, buy-out and usage beyond termination date-how soon do I need to turn this stuff back
... Downloading my phone and MS outlook contacts (this is #1 from past people who go laid off-they forgot to do this)
... Backing up any personal stuff on my PC
... Cleaning out anything - short of a one single / simple box from my workspace
... Making sure LinkedIn profile is looking good and ready

What else am I missing?

I'm surprised people would keep any of their personal info on Xerox computers and phones.

At my layoff, I waited past my severance date (wrong) and applied. Kept submitting weekly reports, but no UE payments came in. Finally, NY State DOL called, telling me I did not qualify because I voluntarily retired. Grateful to neighbor who provided a legal contact to phrase a letter leaving no quarter for my classification to send to Philippines (India) outsourced XC human resources. Was misclassified and forced a correction, and finally UE payments came in. Be sure to do job search activities weekly, record that week and submit that week. Or you lose out for that week, with no recourse. Just before COVID hit. Now I wonder about the WARN act and maybe the misclassification was intentional. Also, have a resume, strengths and skills completely done for any resume writing service benefits - now. Also, what you want to do now.

Your 401k will not become harder to access.

Depending on your "last day of medical coverage" you have to buy Medical from the 1st of the month. So if the Xerox plan runs out mid month, you need a plan that covers from the 1st of that month. Cobra is not always your best option with ACA plans now available. Check your State Insurance plan, or call an insurance broker, and see if cheaper to buy a plan based upon your now unemployed income (not what you were making). Key is to use the current unemployed income for the ACA plan - much bigger benefits and is cheaper than COBRA by a lot of money. Worth checking.

Immediately apply for unemployment if impacted. The longer you wait the loner it takes to start paying out. Do it sooner rather than later.
