It was done to coincide with earnings call 2/14 although you can associate it with phase of the moon, Mardi Gras or Taylor Swift if that works better for your narrative.
All tech companies are trying to match Nvidia and MS who won a one in million lottery with open AI. If one company in a sector performs really well for a Qtr, others must give comparable returns. Of course, they cannot match , how can someone match returns of a lottery ? MS invests in 1000s of companies like openAI and most of them fail. So the quick answer is layoff
