Thread regarding Corning Inc. layoffs

Civil Commentary Please!

This forum as I interpret it is to bring information surrounding layoffs to the groups attention.
I agree that future work, R&D & IP should not be discussed.
And please be civil, we all know someone or could be that someone who will be affected.

“Why? No one cares when it's the production floor workers being laid off.”

I would say that statement is grossly false. No one wants to see anyone lose their employment, period!
It’s bad for the individual, the community & yes, the company.
So just show some civility & be decent. This trait seems to be a dying one since 2020.

I've just checked this. Based on what guys on other boards here are saying, the site's moderated and gets scrubbed on a regular basis. Full list of rules can be found in the footer, but basically comes down to this:

  • avoid derogatory speech
  • avoid using names and personally identifiable info (ok to name c-suits as they are public figures, not ok to name a coworker/direct manager)

Site mods also don’t allow off-topics like customer rants, and discussing politics, religion or ethnicity. Mods nix posts in rule violation, and sometimes ban users (may override it by switching your IP).

Always cut the production people , maybe weed out the 500 section supervisors , department head s and numerous directors and managers

Why? No one cares when it's the production floor workers being laid off. Maybe it's time middle to upper management and the ridiculous amount of engineers most of which do nothing feel the pain of layoff for once.

"we all know someone or could be that someone who will be affected."

This is very important - it is easy to look at ANY group and stereotype them in a negative way. And as many others have pointed out we know that the reductions over the last 5 quarters have totally skipped managers and leadership, so it is natural to focus wrath on them. But empathy and kindness are free.

My prayers are with those affected. I've been there. If a door closes, have faith another will open. Stay driven. God bless.
