Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Change roles or quit?

I am new to this role and I do not like it. Will it be possible to change to a different role or should I look for other jobs?

It’s been done but you need your manager’s approval which HR will ask for to even move you up in the internal posting website managers use. Think about your 401k tho, your contributions are vested 100% only after 2 years meaning you own the $ you and the company match has contributed. That is incentive to try and be honest with your leader and find a better fit if a job with the organization.

It’s frowned upon but possible. The recruiter will let you apply and interview with your manager’s written approval. Just be ready with a good reason for why you are looking. I had an employee that was just not successful and I let him know after 6 months, it wasn’t looking like the best fit. I supported him finding another position. He did and it worked out well for both parties.

the rules changed this year. You do not need to be in your role for 12 months to post out. It is suggested you discuss with your manager but is my understanding you don't need approval. Also, when posting, the college degree requirements are now removed and replaced with experience. Exception being if the role does require a degree (nurse, etc.).

Jist an fyi - The 12 month stipulation was lifted in 2024, per HC. However, to my understanding, it is based on your management's discretion to provide that ok to bid out.

HR does not make exceptions and they will throw your resume out on a technicality. My colleagues and I have found that it is incredibly hard to get another job within Optimum/UHG no matter what the official group speak is about growing and being able to make lateral transfers. It just doesn't happen and if you look at the jobs, there are so many specific qualifications required. Most of them are extremely detailed and require years of experience in specific programs etc.

Hunt outside this stockholder driven for profit wealth care company. This place is rotten to the core.

What is the time frame to be able to change positions if you’ve recently been moved to a redeployed position and you’ve already been with the company for 10+ years?

Exceptions are rare and depends on the manager.

Are exceptions hard or not made? Or is it better to just find something somewhere else?

To change roles, you'll need to stay in your current role for 12 months or get approval from your manager to post out.
