Some tech workers in the Bay are paid less than $100k and have been there for years. They have just accepted it and are still working there, even though they can switch companies and make more than double their total compensation. How are they sustaining themselves or their families on this low income? An Oracle salary doesn't work anymore. And saying that a person in tech is low-income just sounds so weird. Like at least give them some RSUs to make up for the lack/absence of raises.

mid level VP layoffs need to be based on salary.
If Oracle or any other tech companies can hire remote workers or workers with similar skill for less money in other states or countries there is no reason for them to pay inflated salaries for someone to live in one of the worlds most expensive cities.
I don’t want to live in the disaster that is the Bay Area. I can buy 10 times the home in other states and not pay high state income taxes. Tennessee is a nice place.
If you are not low income while working at Oracle,
you certainly will be once they lay you off.

Hey all, I took a weekend job tending bar to make ends meet. The cost of living has become so inflated. Oracle not providing cost increases doesn’t help. We do what we have to in order to provide for ourselves and our family. My wish is that everyone stay healthy and if unhappy at the O leave, in my heart I have to believe greener pastures exist. Peace and love.

No, just the opposite. My point was that RSUs have been pretty good for me. I haven’t had a raise in years but if I had, I doubt it would be that much.

If you are on peanuts, in few years with inflation, you will be on peanut shells while LE wealth will double.

If you think simply make less than 100k is "peanuts", you sure don't want to hear my salary. You would likely have to call it "sesame seeds" or something.
Too many long-time Oracle employees haven't gotten raises in years, sometimes more than a decade. It's shocking.
So, not very surprising you've encountered Bay Area workers making peanuts.
I can verify that at least one Oracle employee at HQ also drives for rideshare as they provided me a ride from campus to SFO. If you have to do that, you aren't making enough at your primary Bay Area job. And yes, confirmed they needed to do so to make ends meet.
They probably have some kind of external asset or money situation going on such as
- They inherited a paid off Bay Area house from their parent’s
- Their significant other works and they have no kids
- If they do have kids then the significant other has to be-in a high earning job
- They have some kind of trust fund or inheritance money
Tech skills are becoming more and more commoditized so everyone (not just the big O) can expect to see salaries decline.
aren't we are in the middle of tech recession? I am not so sure you can easily switch jobs now
and by the way, Canada here, and I am paid on the level of Amazon competition here for the same position. Sure it's less than Bay Area, but it's fine for me personally, it's enough.
