Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

What do you get if you volunteer to go?

What is the package to volunteer for US based employees? I am not volunteering until I know what the offer is - it might just be a bigger box to pack up your '#$!&' and get out. If that is the case I will take my chances - and hope to collect more getting laid off. Honestly I am done I can not continue to live like this - if I don't get laid off, I am quiet quitting. Taking it easy and looking for other jobs - I am 52 no way will I make it to retirement at this place. This place stinks!

What you really get are less medical bills from the ever increasing workload which will and I repeat will get you. Think about it they don't deserve to do this to you get out now.

Many things have been pushed up to the 19th. This is their date to have all their information ready in order to make the decision on lay offs.

Proof once again an ill conceived action, they don't know what they are doing. Moving up the voluntary date to Jan 19 leaves those who saw the original document date of Jan 31 thinking they have until the end of the month, and probably missing out on the opportunity. Nothing was communicated the change of 12 less days to apply.

Also tells me they are building the list now for layoffs - and they want to do it sooner. My guess is if you are laid off, or volunteer, they want you off the books ASAP. My guess is all people will be laid off (or told) in early February - picking Feb 8 or 15th, 2024 as layoff date. What's the over / under on those two dates?

My boss is only three feet tall. I'd like to see him try to act tough over this bs and see where that gets him.

Very sneaky. They changed the date to volunteer. On Jane, the FAQ said to volunteer by Jan 31. Now the FAQ says you must do it by Jan 19. No change notice.

If you volunteer you just become the worst member of your managers team. It is not guaranteed that you are accepted for VRIF. You just played your hand with your boss that you want out. Guess what your MIP is going to be (answer: 0), guess what your work load (answer: bigger than the rest of the team), and what do you think your performance review is going to look like (answer: 1's and 2's). Very dangerous. Only apply if you are going on your own anyway.

Get your resume up to date and start searching for your next job. It's time for you to take control rather than sit there feeling helpless!

Start looking for a job right now as it will take some time to find one (application / interviews / HR approval / more approvals) and maybe you can time it perfectly ( and if not, at least you are at a better more stable company with real benefits

Question, was there some type of communique that went out asking if folks if they might be interested voluntarily quitting? We have heard nothing like this in out area/geographic.

Don't volunteer unless you 100% don't need a job for the 4-6 months it might take to get another. There's no real difference between vrif and irif anymore. At least with irif you can collect unemployment. I do believe you get 2 weeks of medical but the payout is anywhere from 2-16 weeks depending on your role. 8 weeks for most Associates, 12 for managers, 16 for specialties and only 2 for sales. Cobra is really expensive so unless you have some alternate healthcare (in the US), either look for another job first or wait to be laid off. It used to be worth it with the old packages but those are long gone.

If you're lucky, they may advise you to not let the door hit you in the b-m on the way out

Last I knew severance capped at 12 weeks with no healthcare coverage starting at day 1. Quite a bit different than the 2 weeks per year they used to offer, or even 1 week per year.

Free (biased?) advice from a chat board or lawyer… hmmm. Think I’ll go with lawyer.

Talking to a lawyer is good but you don't need to immediately get a lawyer, especially when nothing has happened yet. Free advice is always good, even if you don't take it.
This is for telling them you are open to being laid off voluntarily. It comes with many unseen risks, so please seek advice. Nothing a company says is straight forward. You don't just raise your hand to get laid off, collect money and get a new job.
They will do everything to say you chose to leave. You will not get much from them, nor the state.

"Lawyerup" is a poor suggestion. You very rarely win an HR cases in unless it grievous as anything less is costly and difficult to prove. About the only thing Xerox has done well over the years is protect and defend the Corporation against employee HR claims and case (they even win most times when an employee has a legitimate claim). The reason is they are relentless in defending HR claims. Not a good suggestion, as it will only cost you time and money to "lawyerup".

Don't forget, it's a request to volunteer, not to be a volunteer.
You could request to be a part of the lay off, they deny it, and they fire you next quarter during the next round.
They're stupid but they're smart.

Severance is terrible so your decisions should not be predicated upon “the package”. It’s one week per year of service maxed out at 12 weeks. Lump sum so benefits stop within days.

Definitely wait to get IRIFd. Being nice and volunteering won’t get you a dime extra and may cost you. Play their game - xrx doesn’t care about you, so don’t care about them.

If you do survive the cut, prepare to watch out for added work load as well as lower raises. Watch out for stress - it comes on bit by bit.

Finally, don’t underestimate TCS in stealing your job.

My solution was to get work in safe industries. Those are the ones that require citizenship and/or govt contracts. Any company that can hire globally are not your friend.

Probably vacation time unused and they may not fight your unemployment claim if you quietly transition your tasks to TCS before you leave.... What a dumpster fire!

Folks they are going to do the absolute minimum they have been shaking the tree since JV for years now move you from downtown to that sh-t hole in Webster (some refused and left) then kept lopping on other people's tasks on to your back until you broke under pressure and quit- Those who su-ked it up stayed and got to train Sanjay who was replacing them aka severance while training only then done. But steeevie does this play book all day without even missing a beat lions eat folks get out in your own terms don't let them take your mind.

You can find HR Policy 204.3 for IRIF and VRIF on sharepoint (not a secret policy-has to be all legal). It is all documented and depending on Grade Level / Band - you would get up to a maximum of 12 weeks severance for having at least 11 years of service. 12 weeks is the max regardless of extra long tenure, not like the old days of 1 and 1/2 months for every year of service in the 80's, then down to 1 month in the 90's with a 2 year max payout, then down to 2 weeks for each year up to 2012 and a one year max payout. We are on a budget and that is a pretty spartan separation package, no medical, no profit sharing or bonus pro rated, and no other privilege or perks. But, 3 months pay is better than a kick in the pants.

hr is terrible, so it may take a few days. Worst case send SMW a note directly or ask your manager to inquire

If in the US you will NOT get 1 week/year. 3/4 of webster would be gone overnight

Vacation accrued payout and 1 week for every year of service is standard practice with a minimum 6 weeks.

I tried to find out what the offer was on Jan 3. If you send a note to the HR mail address 'GlobalHROps' that you are directed to in the FAQ (as I did on the first day it was announced) you do NOT get any response. So I would NOT volunteer via that site or process. Nothing is documented. I think they know they are going to get lots of volunteers - so you will probably get very little if anything - other than being a "nice person" and leaving on your own to save another job for someone else. Do it on your own schedule - use your vacation, take you time, then quit - don't fall for a Xerox Senior HR con job.

I'm in the same boat, I would like to get a severance and leave, but not comfortable "volunteering to be part of the workforce reduction" as they word it. Nervous that if I say I'm willing to leave I may not have a leg to stand on legally if needed.

the boot, mothalover.

I feel as though if you volunteer, you quit. You may not get a severance and may not be able to collect. If you really are concerned, talk to a lawyer. Many lawyers; in person, on the phone, online, can give you free initial advice. Not just Xerox, but ANY company will get out of anything they can get out of regarding payments and monies owed.
