They Bent

...And succumbed to the DEI crowd.

Wendy John's exit was a perfect opportunity to scuttle the appaling DEI anti-meritocratic influences. Instead, they made promises to backfill her role and she will be instrumental in the selection of the person.

If you are a white man, then I suggest that you leave now as promotions will not be available for you.

I can't believe they are still doing this.

One of these days, the SC's Ames decision is going to bite Fidelity.

They are OVERDUE.

As a professional who took those "Allyship" courses they were simply disrespectful and derogatory. Thankfully "Required Allyship" made it that much easier to leave when the opportunity presented itself. Thanks WJ!!!! as nowadays I am happier at work than I have ever been.

Wendy John rolled out a number of "uber-woke" mandatory training courses for employees under the title of "Activating Allyship" (you'll see it proudly hailed in the annual reports for 2020-2023). A merit badge system for "inclusive" behavior was implemented, with a required minimum points you had to earn per quarter, largely by calling out your peers for being "anti-inclusion". Lots of talent left and/or were fired for refusing to complete these training courses or play ball with the points. She may have left because she couldn't handle the backlash, but she's staying on with Fid, you'll see her return in a lower-level exec position in a few months.

You mentioned merit, well I've seen white men giving roles that they have no experience in just because they have a good relationship with the hiring manager. Where's the merit in that ?

Hasn’t she spent her career at Fidelity in various roles? Not sure you are referring to the same person?

I don’t really care about D&I but I know Wendy John and she is a smart great lady who was a very successful MD before the diversity role.

Interesting to look at Wendy John on Linkedin. Front and center is Harvard Business School. Look closer and it was just an executive program. Don't know the woman but I think this is extremely misleading!

I am a manager who left 5 years ago. I was told by my new manager that the main driver of my next bonus would be hiring diverse candidates. (i.e. hire white males = no bonus) while i understand the direction, can't see how it's legal. and then out of nowhere was put on a performance plan for really petty stuff after many years of good reviews. after i left, my replacement was a minority woman. i'll be alright but lives can be ruined by this.

One must wonder how many of “anti-DEI” posters share their views with their clients who are women, people of color, LGBT, etc.

If you think your regressive views don’t shine through in how you treat your clients, you’d be quite wrong.

DEI programs are the best hope that big legacy players have to remain relevant to their clients; your younger and more diverse clients aren’t going to pay a fee to a wealth manager whose worldview and investment strategy comes from Fox News

I really think you guys are missing the boat on this one. Abby Johnson and co. Identified a section of society that is under exploited in the workforce. Second wave of feminism allowed women to work outside of the home and we have reached where it is acceptable to hire women into roles they previously would not be considered for. From what I see, they are masquerading as champions of the diverse workforce and the empowerment of women in order to attract and retain employees who will stick around for years. Seems to be all a hiring tactic to find people who are desperate to work and/or have a lack of opportunities elsewhere. I don't think they give a sh-t about diversity and inclusion, they just want populations of people who are desperate change and work opportunities. Those are the ones you can exploit

Anti-meritocratic my assets! I've seen way too many promos this year alone to WM's who just joined the company a few years ago over seasoned more deserving ppl in general. Let it go. Wendy John took an opportunity and from what I understand plans to return.

They will not scuttle it as long as Black Rock and Vanguard hold the majority ownership in just about everything.
