Thread regarding CDW layoffs

Lots of movement at top

Anyone else seen people getting downgraded from Director to Sr Mgr or Mgr…. Or complete reshuffles of teams? So much uncertainty right now. We were going to buy our first house, but I’m not sure whether it’s a good idea to go into debt right now… or whether I need to take the hit and close while I still have veritable employment.

Yeah the new framework is not just to align acquisitions with CDW legacy roles. I have been at CDW since before IGNW (DV) and Sirius and was told my pay may very well be one of the roles the new framework would lower. So they are looking at legacy CDW roles as well.

If you poke around the new framework and the look at internal job listings, you’ll see that in many instances, there are some places where the job duties of a current role have been reassigned to new job titles at a lower level.

If you poke around in share point there’s an entire PowerPoint/page detailing the new framework.

The career framework is to align pay and titles following all the acquisitions is my understanding. Bonus structure for CDW is a percentage of pay — which increases as salary increases. Other acquired companies had a different structure which is being aligned with legacy CDW.

Apparently the Global Career Framework is a dumpster fire with rumors of salary cuts being moved to "potentially bigger" bonuses (which means a pay cut since business is slow and we may not even get Q4 bonuses from 2023)

Managers come-and-go. They are the easiest pieces to replace.

We’ve seen a lot of managers go in all departments in the UK.

This started at the end of Q1 2023. Most of these were ‘middle management’ positions (between worker and director/heads of department level).

We’ve also seen managers laid off and then replaced by someone with a slightly different job title but doing almost the same job. There’s been a few examples of 2 managers being laid off and their role being done by just one new manager.

Re big financial decisions. I would look at how the economy is performing and the economic outlook rather than what CDW may or may not do. The way I see it is that if the economy is good and looks to remain that way, if I’m laid off then there is plenty of other paid employment out there to allow me to continue paying my mortgage. If the economy is or looks to turn bad, I’d probably not risk going into debt as I may struggle to find alternative employment should I be laid off - Also bad economy means higher chance of lay offs if CDW’s Q1/Q2/Q3/Q4 figures are grim.

Not sure I've seen title downgrades, maybe I'm not paying attention enough to that. I'm hesitant myself to make any big financial changes . I completely understand you here. You're going to ultimately do what is best for you and your family.

Where have position titles been changed and reshuffling occurred?

Haven’t heard of the New Global Career Framework or new titles either.

Interesting times

I haven't seen that recently, but remember, the new "Global Career Framework" is being rolled out and new titles are being introduced, so that could explain some of it.
