Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

HR is the worse.

I’ve been around for a long time and Citi is not the only wrung in my employment ladder.
As such, I can honestly say that Citi HR is probably the most worthless department that I’ve ever come across. I don’t mean worse HR department but rather worse department out of all other departments that I’ve ever come across including companies outside of Citi.

They can never advise, answer, direct, enlighten, or assist on any level about anything. They obfuscate as much as they can on every subject. I’m convinced that their biggest daily fear is that they might actually have to help someone. Oh the horror should that ever be the case.

If you want to look for somewhere to trim the extreme useless fat, look no further than Citi HR. Start the head chopping there and replace them with either AI or a styrofoam cup, the effectiveness after the fact could not be any worse than their current contributions to the employees.

HR is the worst. They just allow even dogs to be interviewed if hiring manager says so. Hiring manager just bring their friends esp from other banks. The jpb portal is outdated

Start by letting HR go.

In normal firms like Goldman and JP, big announcements like bonuses and layoffs/restructurings are announced by the senior ED or the MD of the immediate team, not your line manager, i.e. someone with budgeting responsibilities / controlling a cost centre. But Citi is a joke so you might get a call from the lobby telling you to pack your stuff 😀

I’ve been at Citi for more than 5 years. Since I’ve hired on up until today, HR has always been spoken about with much contempt and untrust. This being from my colleagues, MD and as much as two levels beyond that. Its something to hear a manager 3 levels up say in a meeting that HR is not there for you, they are there for Citi.

I’ve not seen any action at all by HR that contradicts that but rather just the reverse.
Every action I’ve ever seen or heard of by HR just substantiates and solidifies these ill feelings. What purpose do that truly serve that could not be done by AI.

Letter of the law: The speed limit is 55 on a stretch of road. A police is out there stopping every single person that goes 1 mile over the speed limit in order to give them a ticket regardless of how clean their record is.

Spirit of the law: The speed limit is 55 on a stretch of road. A police office flashes his lights briefly to remind people when he seems someone going 56-60 MPH. Anyone going over 60 MPH (5 miles over) gets pulled over. If a clean record, they get a warning. If they have multiple offenses, they get a ticket.

Citi HR loves and I mean loves to follow the letter of the law. They will never fall to the side of common sense. L-E-T-T-E-R-O-F-T-H-E-L-A-W all the way each and every time.

@3ynx+1qp3VCB3 : They could have your special needs equipment on the same floor 30 feet away from you locked in a room. If the process says they can wait up to a year to provide it to you, then by god on all that’s holy, that’s what they will do. It was a manipulative prolonged bully tactic in hopes that it’d drive you away. Hard to prove but you could have gotten a lawyer. Maybe even sue now for unnecessary physical pain and mental stress caused by prolonged Citi HR approval process.

I agree with that. I have a disability and despite submitting all of the required paperwork numerous times from my physician and got accommodation approved from their insurance carrier. It still took them over one year to finally get me the desk equipment needed to work in the office. Which mind you the write up threats if you do not work the mandated three days. Causing me to suffer in severe arthritis pain in order to keep my job. Meanwhile I have all the necessary accommodations at my home office. Could have easily allowed work from home exception. And don’t understand why they require annual renewal of all the paperwork, paying a costly doctor to recomplete each year for a condition that is permanent disability.

Post ID: @1ehx+1qp3VCB3 Agree. Citi's and Citi HR's nerves were obviously struck because the OP is correct, incisive and on point ! LOL! Someone posted that HR is an easy, subjective, BullSh!t job and most people who end up "working" in HR couldn't get real jobs themselves. So true. He|| they probably interview job candidates for jobs they, themselves wanted until they had to settle for "working" in HR. For example, an HR interviewer who got a Bachelors Degree in Finance, Economics or Accounting interviewing job candidates for Analyst, AVP, VP, etc. roles in Equity Research. LOL!

Post ID: @dtz+1qp3VCB3 The Chief Legal Counsel may be above and out-rank HR, but the former's job is to protect and defend Citi and HR at all and any cost even if Citi and HR are blatantly and grossly wrong! There's No use or point in cc'ing the Legal Dept.. They wipe and protect the A$$E$ of Citi and Citi HR. As the saying goes, "He who pays the Lawyer, Controls the Lawyer." .

What is wrong with “worse”??

Worse is the comparative form of bad, basically translating to “more bad.” Today's weather is worse than yesterday's. Worst: Used to denote the most negative or inferior condition, worst compares more than two things or a group. Worst is the superlative form of bad, meaning “most bad.”

LOL. "It was just a misspelling". This person used it incorrectly 3 times. Same folks who spell "lose" as "loose", and who like to "touch basis" with other people. LOL.

that’s when you know you’ve struck a nerve of truth. When someone notices a word spelled incorrectly and that’s what they hinge their counter argument on. As if that misspelled word totally negates the rest of the statement.

People aren't doing their jobs, which is very evident in HR, but also in the management layers.

Chief legal counsel is over HR at Citi.
Should be cc’d on all communication or report to ethics point online so he gets the messages.

Should be cut and outsourced.

The reality with Citi’s massive bureaucracy and poor communication is that nobody is in charge. It is out of control.
