Corning I joined no longer exists. It is now a completely different company with a completely different culture. Things have turned too political and toxic for my taste. I would lie if I said that getting severance to leave doesn't sound tempting at this point.

"you don't want to get laid off for the following reasons:"
Totally agree - if you are reading this, get your resume in shape and get your LinkedIn and Indeed accounts up to date and ready.
Unless you have another job already lined-up or are given an attractive early-retirement package, you don't want to get laid off for the following reasons:
- . You lose your healthcare/dental insurance.
- . You are less attractive to future employers when you are unemployed (they assume that if you were good at what you do, you wouldn't have been laid off).
- . You are in a weaker bargaining position with new employers. They will be less willing to give you decent salary or extra vacation because they figure that you are desperate....and once your severance runs out, you will be desperate.
While I am hoping to NOT be laid off this year ... I agree with everything you say. There is not a single way in which the culture has improved since the days of the REAL 'shared sacrifice' during the Great Recession 15 years ago. It really is at the point where favoritism keeps coming up at the top of issues and the basic answer from leadership is "we'll have to look into why people incorrectly feel this way" (spoiler: because 'favoritism' might as well be added as a core value!)
