Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Optum UHG Layoff for 2024

I work as a SR Director in workforce planning and Layoff's for 2024 are coming down the pipeline. Just in time for company wide payouts. They need to give these poor people notice and not 2 weeks! SMH... Already looking on my end for a new gig UHG/Optum is a mess.

I work for Optum in the Government relations department (formerly Change Healthcare). It seems every time they offer a redeployment opportunity, another layoff follows. There have been 2 previous deployment opportunities offered and layoffs followed in April and July. Now they have offered us another employment oppertunity in a department in Optum and I guess there will be another round of layoffs coming. I appreciate that they offer us these alternates to a layoff, it's just I wish they would be more transparent as I suspect they already know if they are getting rid of this department. Let us know if you plan to disband the whole department. It looks like they are trying to build back our department's applications and tech that we lost due to the cyber attack.. but .?? Some are trying to wait it out in hopes they can survive the layoffs in the event we do regain our ability to work and get our contract back with UHC. t

For those affected in this round of layoffs, what is your proposed severance package?

Is there room for negotiation? Is it worthwhile to have an employment attorney review it?

And for those who have been through this, what advice do you have for the newly affected?

Layoffs have occurred with two week notices earlier this year and Q2 bonus will be paid as long as the employee stays until the pay date. I was laid off in Feb 2024.

Even if you are a nurse you should be scared. Everyone is replaceable. They don’t care about you. They’ll hire another one of you for less pay.

I have a meeting invite for the 7/18 date and only says "RIF". Wow how tacky is that? My work anniversary for 15 years overall at this company is this week. Gotta love the lack of care.

I was contracted for Optum and I literally was told today and that today was the last day. Absolutely unprofessional. I’m
Glad my skill sets are in high demand compared to others within IT, but these companies need to be held responsible to this type of actions. It’s absolutely irresponsible and careless.

Not all of the Optum offices transferred to ECW, so how are the people that haven’t converted taking a laptop home because we didn’t have one until we converted?

I heard about that July 18th shutdown. Are they really going to let everyone go on that day? Apparently some people received the email about July 18th and some haven't. What about the patients? This is scary

The layoff is happening July 18. They have blocked 3 hours in the morning for a company wide meeting and told people to work from home that morning. This includes clinic staff telling them to move all appts to the afternoon because some clinics will be shutting down. Rest assured the big wigs all have their jobs and director level positions with no direct reports will be safe. As long as you are su-king up to leadership you will be fine.

Optum is getting ready to get rid of more positions in July. If you are part of Landmark hopefully you are already looking for another job…better if you have another job. If you are not a nurse….,good luck.

This company is awful. They came in and destroyed a great health care facility alot of great people lost their jobs. They sent them to India and the Philippines...go figure. They don't care about the patients or the employees it's all about the money after working in Healthcare for 19 years it's just disgusting. Very sad.

Just announced one group CEO made 25 M last year. This probably does not include all of his perks. Such as CC membership car allowance etc etc. keep in mind this is just one group CEO. Bigger is not better in healthcare.

This experience is absolutely nuts! I got laid off 4/18/24 with many others throughout the organization. There was no warning. It's been one week and I am a mixed bag of emotion. Never have I felt so betrayed and fearful for my family's livelihood. 2 weeks? Is this even legal?

I’ve been laid off for a week now. It feels like I’m running a marathon to find a job before the illegal two weeks are up. I had no idea being laid off would feel so liberating from a sordid company AND so fatiguing at the same time.

I work IT for an Optum subsidiary (not Change Healthcare). Got 2 wks notice on 4/18/24. As in with previous posters, I was repeatedly assured that it was not performance related but due to “business restructuring”.

The reality of the corporation.

"Business leaders today say their companies care about more than profit and loss, that they feel responsible to society as a whole, not just to their shareholders. Corporate social responsibility is their new creed, a self-conscious corrective to earlier greed-inspired visions of the corporation. Despite this shift, the corporation itself has not changed. It remains, as it was at the time of its origins as a modern business institution in the middle of the nineteenth century, a legally designated “person” designed to valorize self-interest and invalidate moral concern. Most people would find its “personality” abhorrent, even psychopathic, in a human being, yet curiously we accept it in society’s most powerful institution. The troubles on Wall Street today, beginning with Enron’s spectacular crash, can be blamed in part on the corporation’s flawed institutional character, but the company was not unique in having that character. Indeed, all publicly traded corporations have it, even the most respected and socially responsible among them..."

My full time pharmacy tech was chosen to be let go this week. Very randomly chosen and not based on performance or length of employment . We have a very small staff and any further cuts would be unsustainable . The remaining staff is prepared to walk out if there any further cuts. It is not a safe environment for patients or our staff .

I normally don’t like government intervention. But in this case, I hope the DOJ tears management a new one. I hope they lose the WARN lawsuits.
