WA state unemployment question

Hello there -

My separation date was Dec 4 and I have filed for unemployment insurance with WA ESD. I accurately reported continuing pay each week after the separation date. However, I'm not receiving any UI payments -- I think the continuing pay is tipping things to "excess earnings".

Anyone else in the same boat? I was under the impression that severance does not affect eligibility for UI payments in WA. I have tried to call ESD a number of times but have not been successful in getting through to a real person. Thanks in advance!

Good luck getting state unemployment on the phone. I've been trying for the past 3 days, and their IVR system says "we're too busy" and hangs up.

Par for the course in the People's Republic of Washington run by Commissar Inslee.

Thank you! Your feedback is much appreciated. I wish this was more clearly explained. I'll make these changes to my WA UI application.

My last 3 weeks in WA show PENDING. Wish the nitwits in Olympia would pull their heads out.

Ok you are getting a lot of wrong information. In Washington state you get both severence and unemployment concurrently. The only thing you have to do is on the weeks you get severance you need to mark YES when it asks if youve received severence, then mark NO on all the follow up severance questions. It will not ask for hours or paid severance amount. If it does, youve entered it wrong. Severance is not hours worked and I suspect you are inputting it as such. BTW Im in WA and get both concurrently

I had a similar issue in Kansas. Kansas counts severance pay where Missouri does not. Fortunately I was qualified to file in Missouri and am receiving unemployment payments weekly.

Had same issue and confirmed if weekly tmo pay is greater than weekly unemployment pay, you will not get anything until salary continuation ends.
