Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Everyone’s anxiety is compounded by the limitations they place on themselves.

Why limit your job searching to just internal postings to Citi?
Why limit your job searching to just the financial sector?
Search beyond the financial sector. Yes, for now, there are not a lot of postings.
Yes, there are tons of applicants per posting. All of that though…..is “for now”. The job market will get better. I did not subscribe to the whole “Citi is the only place you can ever work” and things worked out for me for the better.

And the other person is right about churning out spreadsheets. Citi embellished the job post and now here I am with no new profitable skills gained and skills I haven't used lost.

If I'm super lucky I can find a higher paying job.
If I'm lucky I can find an equally paying job.
If I do really good I can find a job with a 15-25k pay cut.
If I do well, I will find a job with a 35k pay cut.
If I do whatever I have to do, I'll end up with 50k paycut.
If I end up doing terrible, I'll end up with a 65k paycut.
If I do horrible I'll end up going into credit card debt to survive.

What am I trying to say, for me and my industry, banking is one of the highest paying industries, most other industries low pay our field. If I do good, 35k paycut is what I should expect, however I can also be lucky or extra lucky and end up getting paid the same or more, but it has to be some top 10 Fortune 500 place.

The spirit of the initial post is to relate that there are options other than believing that Citi is the only place you’ll ever find a job.

Growth is painful, change is painful but its not as painful as staying where you don’t want to be or somewhere where you aren’t wanted.

If you don’t like your world, then change your world.

You assume alot and make it sound so easy. Having gone through layoffs before, it is not easy and may take a while just to find another job even in another industry. I have even taken big pay cuts just to have income coming in. People's fears are real and shouldn't be minimized by posts like these. It's a lousy economy right now and yes, it will turn around but for now, the struggle will be real and painful.

#1. There are lots of people with years of financial background and career path tied to it.
#2. There are lots of people with visa's tied to Citi
#3. There are lots of people who have location constraints

Market is terribly bad outside. If not lot of people might have left already after Jane has announced layoff.

We all know even "survival" is going to be tough as you have to live a life of fear & death.

Everyone has a family to feed and career to take forward.
I hope the "Restructuring" should be safe with minimal layoffs.

I wish Good luck and strength for my fellows. I am in same boat as you all.
This situation will definitely pass and there will be light.

No one said it was easy, or fun or care free
You do have to try though. You can’t resolve yourself to the thinking that “Citi is the only place that’s ever going to hire you. This is as good as its ever going to get so you might as well not even try.” Citi is not the pinnacle of all things employment. Its not a cult or a way of life, its a job. Simple as that. There ARE other jobs out there than what Citi has to offer.

Mate, it is not easy to find a job in the recent year or so. It is easy to put comments like this. Also, many of the people who will be cut never had any real practical skills in the first place - just BSing, brown-nosing and churning spreadsheets. So not that easy to change employers/jobs.
