Does anyone know the number of people laid off? I heard upwards of 500 last week, I was one.
The overall vibe and morale is super low now within a lot of tech teams. People are fearful now. We were fine being paid peanuts in exchange for the job security. Thank you Ted decker , Fahim, and the rest for destroying the culture here. Two months severance during these hard times in this current job market is a slap in the face. So much for taking care of our people and doing the right thing.
To the person below who says things like "The Home Depot is a pretty liquid company, We don't have the debt that other companies carry" - you have utterly no clue. This company incurs billions of dollars of debt year in and year out to buy more of its own stock back. As of last quarter, it owed over FORTY BILLION DOLLARS in long-term debt.
Your job is safe until it isn't. The majority of the people in IT let go this week were also "100% remote" and "made to feel very secure".
The Home Depot has been persistent in their promise to the remote OCC agents that our jobs are safe. They had a hiring freeze and attempted to cut the contractors out of the picture in the effort to prevent the company from being forced to lay off employees of the company- or so we were told. I am 100% remote and I have been made to feel very secure. The Home Depot is a pretty liquid company, We don't have the debt that other companies carry. This last quarter was the first that we didn't break our sales goals and make a huge profit. I am hope that all of this will help to make the employees that count on all of the benefits that we are offered and the pay. The pay is replaceable but the benefits are not.
security had wayyyy to many people in it. They went crazy hiring even during the freeze. We also have a lot of unnecessary business people collecting checks.
Regarding layoffs in IT Security - they have hired hundreds into that misbegotten organization, it could certainly do with a haircut because all they do is dump work on all the IT teams that have NOT grown
Gutted half of a team I used to work with and my former Director. All by lunch time today.
But are the shareholders happy? Will someone PLEASE think of the shareholders?!
So much for taking care of your people lol
A coworker under a different VP (ATC) just pinged me to let me know he was laid off.
Layoffs today across the entire SSC...tool rental, PRO, Supply Chain,HR, IT...this was a big one. 1/24/24
My partner works for the SSC remotely, and there have been multiple lay offs in the IT/Security department. Like entire teams being laid off with no warning, even senior managers aren’t aware. This “restructuring” every month is ridiculous and ominous.
Layoffs on the Pro side coming 1/24/24
No layoffs planned at all. We had a hiring freeze and remained under budget at the SSC. Remote workers are 100% safe. The housing market is also going to bounce back in the next year or two.
I work for a third party company that take customer service calls for Home Depot. The hours have been cut since before December.
I’m also close to a 100% remote associate. They say they haven’t heard of any layoffs or remote status changes. I know a good amount of SSC employees had to go back months ago (almost a year at this point). I would think that if they were really wanting the remote people to come back in, they would’ve made the change months ago.
My mother in law and sone of her coworkers who work in corporate just got some title "Indepedent Worker" that allows them to be 100% remote. My mother in law is happy but scared that they are using this as an excuse to fire some of them long term. Thoughts?
