“More than half of companies also said they plan to implement a hiring freeze in 2024.”

“When asked why the companies were engaging in the layoffs, half said the anticipation of a recession was a reason. Meanwhile, a little less, four in 10 said they are going to lay off employees and replace workers with artificial intelligence (AI).”

AI is way too clunky to replace real devs. The issue is our leaders are mo--ns and may expect who's left to "figure it out" and make it work.

I don't think theres really any worry about AI taking over jobs currently. However, currently the 2 rumors about 2024 layoffs are medicare workers and possibly tech workers. The tech worker thing sounded like it happened end of year but with the possible sale of medicare, those might be on the chopping block.

What are the areas most likely to lose their jobs at Cigna due to AI? Business unit VPs must have 2024 plans with forecasts. I wonder if this is why certain jobs are allowed to work from home? Maybe they are the first to go?

response to: This is no surprise. AI already started to replace hundreds of people at Amazon who were working on Alexa. Google it yourself. All jobs taken over by AI will never come back. 2024 is going to be a turning point in the job market.

this isn't even true. They cut the alexa unit to work on generative AI. There are still developers working on AI, it's not AI taking over the alexa devs work.

honestly, that article doesn't seem very credible. Resume Builder is their supposed source, but why would companies be telling them? Seems like its just fear mongering tbh

So stupid considering AI isn't even good enough to replace people yet. Especially those stupid chat bots that never provide any helpful response. ChatGPT is far from replacing any real dev work as well.

It’s no surprise. Already using some AI tools heavily. It’s too good and scary to be true
