Anyone from Aug (Oct) layoffs get a job yet?

Just wondering if it will take 100 or 200 interviews to get a job, especially if you are over 40. No one I know has had success yet. Anyone have luck?

First of all, to the person who returned: how effed up is that when they make you reapply for a job instead of moving people around? What kind of place operates like that? And second, my heart goes out to the person who lost her husband. They laid off 500 people who lost their jobs, some having been there decades, and some who are now on Husky and getting there ready for sale because they can’t afford them anymore. Bye to a decent retirement… pushed into poverty because you were dedicated and didn’t change jobs like clothing. It’s a tough market out there for professional positions. I wish everyone the best new year. I only wish I could understand why anyone would be loyal to a company like this.

I got laid off in August. I have been looking for a job like it's my job. This is awful for me. I lost my husband to Cancer in 2022, and I had to get used to one income. I was doing just fine until the layoff. I am interviewing but always get the we chose someone else letter. The salaries for most roles are so low, that most would not be able to pay rent/mortgage. Praying now that we are in the New Year opportunities will open up, if not I will have to cash in my 401K.

I went back to CVS and forfeited my 18 weeks of severance. I'm 53 years old and went back to a job I enjoy doing. Before stones are cast, do know I am not the only one who returned. There are a number who were laid off and returned, some with a different role/title, some with the same role/title but on a different team, etc. I wish everyone financial stability in the new year!

Landed a 6-month contract in November same pay. After 18 years as an FTE, it’s strange navigating the contracting world on the other side. It totally su-x especially around the holidays when you have zero PTO coming from 4.5 weeks of PTO. I will continue to my search for a FT position in case this gig doesn’t work out.

Adding to below post. I also started applying right away. Broadened my search, set a goal for 5-10 applications per day. And yes, got stung last month with a lower than anticipated offer. However finding something allows you to slow down and be more methodical in your search. Which is where I am now.

I had a couple offers in September, accepted one, but still looking for the forever job.

I won’t lie this has su-ked. I loved my job and the layoff cut me to the core. I still cannot wrap my mind around how they made their choices.

I was part of the “quiet layoffs” that happened in June. It was pretty much radio silence with us.
Networking and reaching out to people on LinkedIn that work with organizations you are interested in is a critical component of your job search.
Unfortunately, the job market is tough and I continue with the search, interviews waiting for the right role to come along. Salaries are significantly lower so consider other areas of negotiation when offers come in.
Remember to take a breath and take care of yourself.

I set a "goal" to apply to 10 jobs a day, 7 days a week. It ended up taking 14 hours a day. I sent out 900 resumes in 4 mo. Had 13 different company interviews and landed a job where I start Jan. 8th. All my interviews came from someone in my network that connected me with the recruiter or hiring manager. I am 53 with 30 years experience. My pay was cut in 1/2. I was a snr. director at CVS for 11 years (started as a snr. manager & worked my way up over the years). I had to take a step back. I applied for director, snr. director and VP roles in my field (step back, step up & same level roles). LHH was a joke. I had a 5 min. call on Day 1 and she was so over-whelmed with her slice of the 5,000 laid off she didn't have time to guide. I found with so many people out of work, pay was down. Be wary when companies post salary ranges (XX to XX). I found out the hard way some states require them to post the salary range, but just because they post it doesn't mean they pay it. Most jobs I applied for had a range of $80-130k (director) or $130k-$180k (snr. director) somewhere in there, to find out the pay was at the very bottom of the band, that was the "budget". And I saw a huge shift in remote to hybrid to in office from August to December searches. Something to read up on - how companies are shifting back to in office/hybrid. Thankful to have a job. I'll work my way back up. Good luck everyone. I hope my journey is helpful to someone and may yours be brighter. You might have to re-set some expectations/assumptions, but you got this!
