PL knew who was getting cut, because they picked them. My team lost 3 people and all 3 were employees the PL did not like. He told one of them that he would promote to a lead in a few months, so the person would keep working hard and going the extra mile, all while he knew he was cutting him.
I would say if you were close to your people leader and really wanted to be back at the company you were with and back on the team, respond to the affirmative and get back on it. If you like what you have been doing and have a heart for the mission, get back to it if you have the opportunity. I always think of why I do what I do and its for the customers. Its not THEIR FAULT things are crazy right now, and it certainly isnt mine or ours either.
I always try to be as pleasant as possible. No need to burn a bridge, because you never know when you'll run into these folks again or need that reference. Most of these folks up to the Director level have no clue whats coming down the pike and truly felt like cr-p having to deliver bad news they knew would be life changing for people.
Im a nobody, but I have great relationships with people up the ladder where I work. It all seemed so random and weird... and they didnt even get the reasoning behind it.
9zrn+1qbTDUXB That was the case here. She is definitely inquiring to see if I've landed something, and where (in hopes that I haven't).
Be glad they care enough to text you back. I thought my PL was my friend, but she knew well in advance I was getting let go. She let that info slip to a coworker who is my friend.
It looks like H.R. is here to provide the details that should've been provided to their employees during the lay-off. The damage is done.

You might want to have a word with a few PLs. My PL also told specific people they were safe immediately after the media leak. But ok, let's go with a 24 hour notice of the list. PLs had a whole MONTH'a notice that lay-offs were coming.
PLs did not choose ANYONE. They were told who was on the list 24hrs or less ahead. If they were able to “save” anyone it had to do with not hiring for an open position and accepting a reduced team. Please stop the false narrative that supervisors decided who would go. Not like that at all.
Unless your PL was a senior director or up they had zero to next to zero input into who was kept and who was let go. Senior Directors most of whom have 100+ people under them were able to protect 2, 3 people, from there it was pretty much a lottery of who was let go. If you were terminated then you were provided a list of the positions and the age of those who were terminated with you. Great strides were taken insure that the demographic makeup of the company didn't change. PLs from directors down got about 24 hours notice. Are there cases where a manager or supervisor learned X was on the list and worked to save that person last minute? Sure that is possible but that didn't preclude that someone else would be selected by the same process that X was chosen.
@oze+1qbTDUXB Not only was she aware, she chose who would go because she informed one of my coworkers how she gave up a position to save her. She told two others they were safe. When I asked, she directed me to the town hall.
Have you responded? I am wondering if they want to bring you back? Chances are highly likely your PL was not even told of your layoff until right before you did and had hand in that decision. But, if another position opened up, they have direct influence on who they hire. Just a thought of course. On the other hand, even if that is the case, would that be something you’d want to endure again potentially?
