As others have posted, Temp-Contractors do NOT get Laidoff. Only Full-time Permanent Employees get Laidoff. The first question a worker must ask themselves is what is the Name of the Employer on Your Paychecks??? If your Paychecks show ABC Temp-Employment Agency, that is your Employer NOT Citi or [Fill In the Blank of Company Name]. By definition Contractors are actually called Temp Workers, short for Temporary Workers or Temp-Contractors or simply Contractors. Contractors' assignments or projects with the Client Company of the ABC Temp-Employment Agency can end at anytime. They are Not Laidoff.

I’ve heard of many contractors not getting renewed. But that’s not a layoff, by definition.

@nfq+1qaFTYrl Contractors cost typically double a regular employee. So I beg to differ. They are budgeted for 12 months. They are viewed as FTCs that are easier to get rid of.

Our contractors are getting shuffled about. I haven't heard of any not having contracts renewed or anything yet.

@iyx+1qaFTYrl contractors don't soften the blow no more so than selling off capital assets to boost revenue would. Denial is a he-l of a dr-g.

Contractors take the work knowing it can end at anytime. Not a silent layoff. Its a smart way to keep perm staff when cost pressures hit.

Contractors being let go is NOT a layoff. Get your sh-t together. This is normal and the reason companies hire contractors.

Same in our area. Most of our contractors have been or will be let go by the end of the year. Wondering how this factors into the total numbers being reported since contractors aren't given severence or unemployment benefits. Not seeing any headlines about it either, very hush hush
