Will Virtual first last?

Our competition has realized that wfh is not ideal and are getting back to office to be productive.

Will the new CEO realize the situation and reverse the virtual first ideology (iodicracy). This was done to sell all the real estate and prop up the cash flow! We all know why cash flow was propped up!

Reversing VF would cost a lot in terms of buying/renting office space. Seems like an unnecessary cost when most studies seem to show remote working if more productive anyway

First of all your collageus are not your friends! Work is not your family! Office politics? Sc--w that!

Why some fields have nice benefits and others not? Because people who have options will simply leave for another company which offers the BENEFIT. For now THE BENEFIT is working from home.

Stuck in the traffic to be stuck at the office looking at the same 4 walls of open office, talking to just the same handful of people in office who are your colleagues, is not a good thing.

There's also lots of data that shows working home is terrible, bad for the individual and bad for the company.
It maybe OK for execs with their mansions, dedicated office space but for young people renting one room in a shared house, their office is their bed, not ideal.
Also how to early career folk pick up culture or all those soft skills, if all they have is teams?
How many people who were working before covid found, social activities, friends, even partners in the office.
Stuck at home looking at the same 4 walls, talking to just the same handful of people on teams, is not a good thing.

There is plenty of data around showing that working from home is more productive. It is feelings and emotion that makes those at the top think being in an office is good. As a trial maybe next town hall everyone from around the globe can be flown in to collaborate.

Reversing the Virtual First would be difficult as in the UK we do not have office space for even 5% of the people. Royal Pavilion is going to be sold.

The reverse is true here in Australia. They have retained offices that are now largely empty devoid of anything to entice you back. A free pizza doesn’t cut it. Our muppets want staff back in the office because management can neither lead or trust their staff. It’s all in the name of closer collaboration you see and taking each other out for “tea and buns”. All at your expense of course. When most of what we do had been offshored to save money, how exactly do we collaborate and create that Esprit de corps. I’d be all for it but management can’t see the divisive and somewhat poisoned culture they have created let alone the fact that we can no longer be in the same office and same location. It’s now gone beyond that. But then again, it’s beyond our management to really understand how to fix it or understand or frankly care. The “what” Is easy it’s the “how” that is too complicated for them to understand.

WFH is now one of few if not the only reason to stay at DXC. DXC's productivity issues are caused by DXC's and our clients insistence on sticking to processes born in the 1940's and only just digitised by using Word documents and Email!

Some tasks are more productive face to face, and having never met most of my colleagues, the company has missed a trick getting us all together now and then. My colleagues are just voices at the end of a teams call, saying stupid things, and being seemingly incompetent. I know they are not. It's more they don't have 5 minutes to read, investigate and learn. But it comes across as don't care, don't want to care. Those trying to help just sound like they are patronising. So we now operate don't ask, don't help and nobody can't bite your head off. Net result: Nothing useful gets done! And if it ever does, someone will just undo it all anyway.

I was virtual at DXC since 2010 and supported clients world wide. Being in an office is stupid!

The only reason they wouldn't do it is because in many countries DXC has already sold off the offices.

That's not to say virtual first ever achieved the 90% remote working.

From what I can see I'd say around 30-40 thousand+ are still office based - mainly in non-USA or non-Western Europe. There are about 150 office locations still, some tiny but some pretty sizeable. Guess the real estate there wasn't worth anything to sell.

Real estate sell off does still continue though.

I don't think you are going back to any DXC office soon - if you hang around you'll probably be going to someone else's office after they buy you though.
