Anybody is thinking to take a 6-12 months career break after a layoff? Instead of jumping on the next work opportunity take time to focus on traveling, hobbies, socializing, mental health, spending time with family..

There are still jobs in market. But demanding lower pay and no visa sponsorship. All companies are advised to avoid visa candidates
… as if the market is in hiring spree and you can find a job right away? Don’t worry, you will get 36 months break after the layoff.
One of my friend did it few years ago. He travelled to several countries and he felt it was rejuvenating. He was able to find job after that. 6 months gap did not make any difference for him and he landed in a much better job than before.
I would say that it depends on you what you want to do with your life.
Going to bora bora. .
You only know the answer. For most that means wasting valuable time in a very difficult job market and also having to explain the gap in the job interviews. I’m assuming that the lost of income is not important for you.
If you are looking for external support to justify what you want to do, don’t. Everyone will have different takes based on their own reality.
I have bills and no one is supporting me, so no, if I can help it.
+1qXePZ7q- what is IC? I also heard people manager should have 8 reports.
I may take 3 months break if I loose job so I can focus on certifications and health
Market is shifting its gears. The positions eliminated now will not be available anymore.
For example: DevOps, QA, Business analysts, Application managers, PMO
these roles will be more vulnerable and will be completely obsolete in coming years.
The layoffs are also targeting removal of "Intermediate managers". So only "Directors" will be managers and rest all will be IC's.
A heavy restructuring , work pressure environment will be available after these layoffs. So its not just "Political" survival of layoff but "Survival for long term" is required.
If thinking about work life balance, yes better to take vacation and move to a less salaried industry.
You can have that 6 month break cause it's going to take that long to find another job with all the AI bots interviewing people for the jobs. If you are lucky and match the right skills for the job then your first interview will be with an AI bot. They collect data on your facial expressions, how fast you answer, are you spitting out the right words, are you answering on related topics, how long it take you to answer, look at your eye movement, do you speak clearly in english, etc. It's going to be tough to get through the first stage.
