Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

Consider your layoff to be a blessing

You'll get some money and you'll be able to find a job in a better company that treats employees with respect. Those left behind are stuck in this shithole doing extra work to make up for those who were kicked out. I know it might be scary at first, but when you think about it, those laidoff are better off.

I can not same for everyone, but it was blessing for me. Everyone knew that mass layoff was coming. Somehow, I got a feeling that I would get laid off. I was scared, so I started applying, I got a headstart. Landed an interview 21st August, 2 days before the layoff letter we got on 23rd August. Interview was really good, but panicked for more than a week while waiting for the confirmation. Pay is much better, similar other benefits. But work is also lot more than at T, as I was doing almost nothing there.

If you got laid off a year+ ago the job market was a lot stronger.

Unfortunately, if you're looking for work it could take longer than the usual @6 months.

Keep diligently working at your search and remember all you need is one job to open up for you.

Most of my peers in engineering and operation who got layoff have been getting lower salary and lousy benefit. Most landed in contracting role instead of FTE and it is very stressful when the contract is usually 6 months. It is a tough job market out there.

Got to an initial interview in one application. All sounded very positive with the HR types that ran the interview. Have since been ghosted. The new more "caring" HR way in the world.

Same. Have made it to final rounds a few times only to get that middle of the night email rejection.
Lowered pay expectations and willingness to travel more and still nothing.
Sometimes I think being at TMO for more than a few years is a black mark against you in the job market.

Have you navigated this job market? I’d rather be employed right now regardless of the culture. I’ve been busting my a-s trying to land a new role since I got notice in August, and it’s fu--ing brutal out there. So many people have been laid off over the past 2 years and there are thousands of applicants for every job you find. 182 applications and I’ve had 6 recruiter screenings. Grass is not greener on the other side right now.
