Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Is it bad that I would not be upset if I got laid off?

I work in BTS and as of late I despise my role. I hate the culture, the people I work with are awful, and I’m burnt out. At this point I wouldn’t be upset at all if I were laid off. I feel like I am stuck in golden handcuffs, and a layoff would probably be a relief for me.

For those of you posting “find another job” , you must be so unrealistic in that your position is secure and the company could not survive without you. People are stressed, burned out, angry about the LACK of TRANSPARENCY, pressured to meet the unrealistic metrics that are now in place and micromanaged to death. If you don’t like the comments then don’t read and scroll through this site.

I understand that’s it’s super hard to convince yourself to go to a diff company when you are 12 years in as I’m in the same position. All this time I put in and the fact that I don’t need a job to continue to live how I live has me in the mindset that you are gonna have to lay me off to get rid of me. I will get something for my time even if it’s severance. I too once loved my job when it was WellCare. It is literally the perfect job for me. Since it became Centene I now hate my job and it’s because of the unachievable goals they have now set in place. I barely have my head above water and I’m an expert.

Employed people in here complaining while THOUSANDS have been let go is weird.

You have the benefits to speak with a therapist. Use them!

I feel the exact same way, Imstressed and burnt out and would welcome it as well. The working environment is toxic, bordering on harassment. I feel like tenured employees in my dept are being targeted all of a sudden.

I don’t work in BTS but I can tell you all are stretched really thin. BL isn’t making it better - for you or your business partners.

I am with the organization 12 years. I thought I would retire from here but now actively looking outside for jobs. Culture is toxic and the trust is gone. Front line workers are not valued.

No it's not a bad thing. Why would you even think that? I, too, many years ago thought that this would be a great place to grow and have a career. Unfortunately the constant turnover in leadership and unworthy motives has turned this company into a travesty. It amazes me how some in this company are appalled at the idea that people wouldn't want to stay and work for Centene. But then that tells me that they are in good with someone or don't value themselves enough to care. For the people who are screaming "find another job" - well I hope that it's that simple when it comes time for them to have to find another job. I figure it like this - would I be disappointed if they laid me off - absolutely not. Are they looking for alternative ways to terminate people based on performance so they don't have to pay severance? Absolutely they are as indicated by their current unrealistic performance goals and metrics. So you really have 4 options - wait for them to lay you off, wait for them to fire you based on performance, apply out and secure another position elsewhere if you can, or stay where you are and deal with it. I do believe 3 of those options in the end will be a better alternative to the last.

I am actively applying for other roles now, but if I did get laid off before I find another position I wouldn’t mind. To be honest, I was hopeful at first and wanted to grow my career at Centene. I expressed to my leadership multiple times the challenges I was facing but they have not taken any meaningful action to provide support. I have an extremely heavy workload and my leadership keeps adding more to my plate (especially since we lost valuable team members from the layoffs in October), making it so that I work into the late evenings and on weekends too. I have no work life balance and it’s impacting my mental health. Lately, I have been so burnt out that I barely have any motivation to get out of bed in the morning. The toxic culture doesn’t help either. The department I work in has high turnover and now it makes sense.

HA - I too am in BTS and hate my job (burnout), but I do like the people I work with (a lot).

With that being said, I have applied to a lot of external roles (for some time) and am not getting interviews. Silver handcuffs in my scenario.

Not to be rude but if you’re that unhappy with your job yet you stay in your job…that’s a you problem. Take initiative, update your resume and look for a new job.
