Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Question for the employees who’ve been here for more than a year

Guys I’m about to make a year, and I have a question.
I received an email saying “congratulations on making 1 year with Centene. Please select an award.”
Now when I opened up, it was to pick a gift.
Now, I’m not one to complain, but of all from years working as a professional healthcare….

Why did they okay this idea? I’m thoroughly offended.
I can pick between a small pouch, a luggage tag, a small journal, or a donation of $5 to a charitable organization.

Why am I offended? Because in all my yearsssss, I’ve been “rewarded” respectfully by my previous jobs.

But this?? I find insulting. I wish I can add a screenshot on here. I’m not joking when I say these items look like items you can pick up from a discount store.
My previous jobs would do an increase of wage, whether 50c or 1-2$ at least it was something. But this?????.
I’m actually offended.

I’ve worked (including most of you all as well) my bo--y off, meeting quotas, meeting expectations. I was told during my interview that they increase every year you stay here.like ????????
I’m sorry I’m just honestly offended. No wonder morale is so low. I am no longer going above and beyond for a company that treats its employees so poorly.

Next thing they’ll probably do is lower vacation days smh.

My question to people who’ve made their one year anniversary here, have they always compensated this way? They’ve never provided yearly bonuses?

I've never worked anywhere (like 10+ jobs) that gave anyone anything for 1 yr. Even 5 or 10 years, a couple jobs gave trinkets or a certificate. What do you expect? When I was a manager for a couple years, I gave my folks xmas presents out of my own pocket. I wouldn't expect a company to do much.
Maybe you were lucky enough to work at multiple places that did provide those things. Consider yourself lucky, but lower your expectations a bit, or you'll just be angry with the world.

They have taken every single incentive to be proud of where you work away, even the internet stipend. It now costs you money to work here. My dept didn’t even get the lousy food gift they gave the rest of the company for Xmas. We are the peasants begging for money on the highway exits to them.

Your ignorant. Why should I have to pay tax on an item I am not purchasing? Are you daft? Centene needs to pay the tax. Imagine someone getting you a gift and expecting you to pay the tax on it. Seriously?

To the people complaining that they tax your gifts…that’s the freaking law, not Centene doing so. If you have a problem with it then contact your congressman. Complaining that Centene is following the law is frankly ignorant on your part.

I haven’t received my 15 year gift (a cooler bag) that was ordered over a month ago lol. I gave up on this company and am actively searching for a new job.

I got nothing for my 1 or 5 year anniversary, but got a couple of coffee mugs when I was there. One thing I did was do all those health things for the health discount, collected a bunch of points and used it to get an Amazon gift certificate before I left (yes you are taxed on everything they hand out as "gifts").

Sorry to hear the annual bonuses disappeared. That su-ks!

I didn't get sh*t for my 20 years last April. I got a plastic 20 that said Health Net. Then was laid off in August. I got something decent every 5 years but by 20 they didn't give me squat.

I’m almost 4 years in and I’ve never gotten anything other than a little book in the mail with one team members personal message. Raises are annual for everyone but it’s always just enough to offset the increase in health ins et . And they tax you on every single “gift”.

All I got for year 5 was an acrylic blue C paper weight. I used it as a white elephant gift.

AFAIK everybody should get a 2-3% merit raise in March/April, regardless of your start date. Some also get bonuses. The one year trinkets are just extra, not something to be offended about.

You're offended now. Just wait until you see your paycheck and they've deducted taxes for a $25-50 value of the "gift". lol I didn't get anything until year 5 and that was to choose a gift from a catalogue. The items ranged from thermoses to bags. I chose an electric toothbrush (something I could at least use), but it was cheap cr-p and broke on the 2nd use. At least I got something, though. My coworker's manager didn't like him and refused to submit his work anniversary so he could receive something. We received bonuses through 2023, but now they're reserved for top tier management. You know, those people who are making the life-altering decisions that make our jobs he-l? Bonuses were never guaranteed, but in the 10 years I've been with the company, I've always received a decent one. MFN used to always say that if we don't get a bonus, neither does he. I doubt it's a coincidence that bonuses for us "lowly" employees went away when he did. My medical deductible has gone up from $250 to $750, and premiums are at least triple what they used to be. Raises are 3% if you're lucky, and management says they can't give you an "exceeds expectation" on more than a couple of items in our reviews. I have zero incentive to do more than my required metrics, and I've long past caring about my own personal drive to do better.

I loved working for this company for several years, but for the last 2, it's been miserable. No longer are they trying to fix the problems. Now they make huge decisions that cause a whole ream of new issues, on top of the ones we already had. There are less people to handle these issues, and directives from above seem to be to "just meet your metrics and don't worry about it". I am surprised we have any members or providers left. There is no way in heck I would refer someone to Centene for either employment or insurance needs. Now, I'm being told I am being moved to salary and new management (no raise, of course), which I'm sure opens up a whole lot of unpaid overtime. It's mentally, physically and emotionally draining, and I can't wait for the day when I can flip this place the bird and move on.

Only a year? So you came in after they decided they were no longer going to give bonuses for performance, or quality, and no key contributor awards anymore to the "lowly" workers but make no mistake they are giving them to salaried employees for all of your hard work. Of course they weren't going to tell you that when hiring you so of course you wouldn't know. And you should be offended. You also have no raises or promotions to look forward to as well from my understanding the "annual" increase in my employment offer 7yrs ago said at year 3+ I would get a 6% raise annually of course based on performance. I met and exceeded every year including 2023 for PFP/Quality and KCA every single quarter and haven't seen that raise. They aren't getting anything but the bare from me anymore.
