Depends upon segment and management chain you are under. As well as your direct manager. I've heard goal this year is 2 days a week in office.

Why the 40 plus workers?
Why not Directors and VPs, that’s who’s making the big $$

"nearly all of those laid off recently or in the crosshairs are 40+"

Is that some sort of strategy to get the more expensive experienced people out so younger people can be exploited for low wages? Not saying this company does that. But ive been noticing this trend in other companies.

infer what you will.

“… Because teams are all distributed, few coworkers would encounter anyone they regularly work with in their nearest office.

Most of DV was hired to be remote and don’t have an office to return to. I hope Eccles officially scraps RTO even though it isn’t impacting my team because there’s no value in enforcing an arbitrary and unequal requirement...”

This doesn’t take into account the value that a hybrid work setting would have in pushing some folks to resign - particularly those on the higher ends of the individual contributor or mid-management pay scales. No expensive severance packages to payout… no worrying about age discrimination lawsuits because nearly all of those laid off recently or in the crosshairs are 40+.

RTO (“Better Together” in cringy corporate) started to roll out in September. The on-site “requirements” depend on your business unit. Whether they’re actually enforced depend on your leadership chain.

In Digital Velocity managers within an hour’s commute of an office are supposed to come in every Thursday. Individual contributors are encouraged, but not required, to come in on Thursdays as well.

In practice RTO has had no impact in DV aside from annoying those managers who can’t argue that they’re too far from an office. Because teams are all distributed, few coworkers would encounter anyone they regularly work with in their nearest office.

Most of DV was hired to be remote and don’t have an office to return to. I hope Eccles officially scraps RTO even though it isn’t impacting my team because there’s no value in enforcing an arbitrary and unequal requirement.

I’m sure that all of those “Better Together” events at offices around the country were just for fun and purely coincidental. No pressure or grand plan for RTO.

The threat of RTO in the horizon seems like a great way for them to further reduce the workforce and avoid costly severance packages.
