Thread regarding Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. layoffs

Why are we still hiring?

What was the point of hiring people just a few weeks after so many have been laid off? Is that really necessary? We couldn't have kept some of those who were affected on? I guess it's true what some people said, people who earn more (due to being here longer) are being replaced with cheaper employees. Nobody cares how much institutional knowledge is lost this way. All they care about is how to make everything cheaper so they can increase their bonuses.

I was part of that layoff over the summer. How you described was exactly what happened. That just tells you how little they value hard working dedicated employees. I heard later on that some were let go due to poor performance, but the others were chosen at random. I call BS on that. I have no doubt the others were chosen due to years of service and salary. And yes, it’s very interesting how they did that and then within a month you hear about a lawsuit against TFS and that they had purchased another small company. No one can convince me that was a coincidence. They have let go of a great number of people but they do it in “small batches” to avoid media attention and to have issue WARN notices. It’s pathetic, sneaky and under handed.

They are trying to outsource everything. They laid off quite a few employees at one time during the summer with very little explanation other than they were restructuring and the positions were being eliminated. They told everyone this is a group meeting that lasted less than 15 minutes. Right after that you see a story on the news they were named in a lawsuit and they were purchasing another small company. Now there are job openings galore. Most of them are in other countries. When they took over PPD they started laying people off left and right. A lot of them had been there for a very long time. The shareholders probably started complaining there checks weren’t big enough. It would not surprise me if that greedy underhanded CEO outsources everything!

They are continuing to outsource IT and Finance. There will eventually be only a few middlemen left watching over the contractors.
