Thread regarding Corning Inc. layoffs

Relocation

Corning Inc. is planning to shutter every single segment located in the Valley as possible, and move it to NC. Not everything can be moved, but if it can - it will.

Did they get rid of the director of the Corning Foundation?

This is typical when you look at a family business with no more family members running it. After Wendell leaves the next CEO will have had zero contact with Jamie or Amo Houghton (also probably should credit Jim Flaws, retired CFO for influence and love of Corning NY as well). They cared about the town and the company. Wendell is not your enemy folks, he is the best chance of keeping stuff here. We have a maximum of one more generation with Corning Inc having the presence here in the Valley. Jamie Houghton Jr. has moved the family trust headquarters to New Hampshire, no longer populating the 80 E. Market st. building as it has for over 100 years. I'm not sure if Jamie Houghton Jr. and the family trust have any love for the town. Even if they did, he is older and will pass away in about 20 years. Then their offspring who probably never lived in Corning won't care. So like I said, we are are borrowed time.

Please note, they moved here from Brooklyn many years ago originally named the Brooklyn Flint Glass company. They moved for economic incentives, and now they will move again. Despite their political stance supporting Democrats they like all corporations seem to set up shop in red states and enjoy the low taxes and abundant workforce.

We are in the managed decline phase. There will be efforts to reduce community spending, try to exit slowly, try to bring in other businesses using the Steuben County IDA, but this period of time will not include any commitment to workers in the valley like you may have had back in the day.

Look for clues, as they continue to consolidate buildings and sell off others.

Don't they employ 10000+ people on the valley? I mean that whole Town is practically Corning Employees.

Probably with all the billions in sale they just announced . They seem to have plenty of cash to fill up Wendell's greedy a-s pockets . This company is another example of corporate greed . Cut all the small guys but line that fat piece of sh-t executives comments

I can confirm this is being explored by HQ. The question is how viable and at what scale?

These actions collectively indicate a pessimistic outlook for Corning Inc., suggesting it may be time to explore alternative employment opportunities especially for those who can leave the area.
