Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

WARN report

I looked at the WARN report for several states that had layoffs but Centene and their layoffs aren’t listed. Any insight to how they are skirting around this state requirement to provide notification of layoffs? They aren’t even on the WARN report for Missouri, their home state for the corporation.

I agree! I mean do they honestly think that Centene didn't consult with attorneys before proceeding! It's weird.

Stop relying on WARN to give you a heads up. HR and lawyers know exactly how to avoid the requirement to post. Not sure why so many on this board keep bringing it up

Oh quite the contrary. I started in CA LOB and lived in CA - I still work in CA LOB and now live in another state. They found a loophole of getting around the warn notice because you have people that live in a different state from the one they are actually providing work for. The requirements need to be changed based on if the parent company employs more than X amount across the board (meaning in total no matter what state) and are planning on laying off X amount even if in increments from state to state ...period. There is a reason why the WARN Notice was enacted to begin with.

You are providing inaccurate information. If you are remote CA you get CA benefits and that lay off could affect if it is state specific just like department or job specific. That’s why compensation ect is based on where you live.

It's simple. In the last two big rounds they gave employees 60 days notice. WARN isn't applicable then.

Remote workers don't belong to a specific state (not tied to any location), and therefore, they don't have to count those layoffs.
Even if they are laying off more then 50 people in your state, but only 49 people in your location, they don't have to report it cause.

  1. because it's less then 50 people within a state
  2. even if the remote workers live in the state where the layoffs are occurring, by definition remote don't belong to any specific state, but only the entire USA.
