Project Manager Job Postings

Centene frequently post for project manager jobs but are they ever filled? I know several people that have applied with years of experience, certifications, and couldn't even get an interview. Are these jobs just posted for internal applicants to fill?

I do have one friend at Centene that was laid off and had to apply for a PM job in another group and she got it.

We had a PM position on our team that we just couldn't fill for a few months. It took 3 months and only had two candidates and hired the one that someone on our team could vouch for.

As for PMs being hired as contractors, that is probably true for some teams. When I first tried getting into Centene, I was being rejected left and right without even a screening call even though I was more than qualified and had experience in the industry. For the position I ultimately got, I listed a referral name of someone I knew at Centene. I'm pretty sure that's what get me in front of the HR screener and then that was enough of a foot in the door to talk to the hiring manager and team.

I've heard (from a PM), that they always hire PM's as contractors to prove themselves first. after 6 - 8 months they convert them as FTE's.

Ghost positions. Sometimes they post just to keep fresh talent pools. The hiring/move freeze is until March unless you already had approval.

I am internal. Do not have PMP cert but would love to get into one of these roles for the experience needed to even get certified. I’ve been turned down over and over so who the h-ll knows what they really want.

Unfortunately, a lot of times if you have certifications, you are looked over because they figure people are going to be wanting more than what “their budget” will allow to pay them. I work in a department who has intentionally turned down amazing candidates because of their qualifications and certifications. They would’ve been asking to be compensated “too much.”
